LT1 choices
LT1 choices
Hi, new to the site and have been lurking around the past few days trying to get some information.
I just purchased a 95 camaro shell without motor. I'm looking to dump a LT1 in and get it running on that.
I currently have some of the parts needed to get the swap done:
LT1 harness (believe its from a 95 will need to verify)
LT1 ECM (this has the 4l60e flashed out of it and setup for a 700r4)
a 700r4 (the owner told me that all i should really need to do with this is push the reluctor ring back farther along the output shaft)
a z28 k-member with springs/etc
and a single piece driveshaft.
The couple questions i had was this, I've been looking around craigslist/ebay for a LT1 source and I see alot more caprice and impala combo's up for sale, what would I need to throw one of these motors in?
I know the 700r4 needs a TV cable and that I need a TV bracket off a 93, will this bracket just mount up on whatever LT1 I get my hands on?
Any help is appreciated.

The B-body engines are only slightly different than the F-Body LT1. They have iron heads instead of aluminum, a milder cam and a different front accessory bracket. You could live with the heads and cam difference and 15-25 less HP, but you would need the correct F-Body accessory bracket, and the bolts and fittings to hook everything up to the front of the engine. I think the B-Body engines may have two knock sensors, so you would only hook one of them up. The B-Bodys all have the vented Opti, while only the 95-97 F-Body LT1's have them.
Just make sure they aren't trying to sell you the 265ci "baby LT1" (L99) out of a Caprice.
If you want a 700R4, and feel the VSS reluctor needs to be relocated, simply buy the 4L60 out of a 93 F-Body. That will have the TC lockup connection, the VSS in the right location, and is basically the same tranny as the 700R4.

thanks, could i use the accessories off the impala and just change the mounting bracket or would I need f-body accessories too? I've been thinking about just grabbing a 4l60e which is what it was suppose to have, but the 700r4 I already have so I would like to use it if i can. Do I NEED the intake manifold off a 93 to use the 700r4 or will the tv bracket for a 93 just bolt on? Thanks.
You need a 93 throttle body. That will have the TV cable connection on the linkage quadrant. The 93 TB will bolt to all LT1 manifolds. Next problem with that - the idle air control valve electrical connection is different on the 93, but its mounted on a bottom plate of the throttle body, that can be swapped for the bottom plate of a 94-97 throttle body.
I don't know if the B-Body accessories - ps pump, alternator and A/C compressor are the same as the F-Body.

The F-Body transmission comes with cast in bosses to mount the torque arm which will run from the ransmission to the rear. You can buy an aftermarket transmission crossmember that puts the torque arm mount on a crossmember tab.
I'm not certain if all else is the same with the B-body tranny...you'd have to consult others for that....but make sure that they are the same length or you'll need a custom driveshaft...
I fit were me, I'd find a tranny out of a f-body just to make things simpler.

Just incase you haven't tried it already, I would check the parts for sale section on here. I watch it pretty frequently and it seems like there is always someone on here wanting to sell a pretty built motor for the fraction of what you could build it for. I bought all the parts for my motor out of my ta on here and it was under 4k or so.
Believe me when i tell you that you will eventually want to build one with more power anyways. Depends on how much you want to spend, just trying to save ya time and money in the long run.
