LT1 backfires

I got a 96 TA cONV a4 it has 129k miles on it and the only problem with it is that it tends to backfire ALOT at higher RPMS. enough to actully make the car not want to go.

Not very skilled in this matter so any help would be great.

I give it preimium gas all the time. It never really did it to bad untill today. i ran it hard the other day with a cobra and it worked then. only about 2 out of 10 times i floored it would it give me a problem. but about 80% of the time it was very very minor backfires, then the more serious ones started happining today witch would spew clouds out of my pipes.

any help would be great

Re: LT1 backfires

I would start this plugs wires and coil then move on to the opti cap and rotor.

Also get your fuel presure checked at WOT.
