LT1 911! Overheating, coolant spilled out of reserviour spout
======================================
UPDATE!!! Please Scroll to the bottom!!!
======================================
K fellas, driving home on the highway, doing about 70 mph.
Out of the corner of my eye whilst talking to my friend I notice a light on the guages, CHECK GUAGES.
Temp needle past red. Immediately shut off car with accessories forward to allow the elect waterpump to keep running, hood latch is pulled to allow air into engine bay faster as I'm coasting to a stop from my highway speed.
Coolant is after spilling down through the passenger wheel well, reserviour spout is top full. All this is after happening with car running no longer 5-10 minutes, car was in 6th gear the whole way.
I can pretty much place my hand on the intake manifold...its not insanely hot at all.
Theres a new thermostat in the car, hypertech 160.....i had replaced one that i thought was faulty when it turned out it wasnt...because my car did this last year.
So I get my car home by driving her while cool, once the needle climbed I shut her off long before the needle it red zone..... kept the waterpump on at all times.
I need help. I JUST got back from a HUGE road trip last night (3000k) with this car, and nothing like this happened. (thank god)
My waterpump works, and I verified this. My next step is to run her with no thermostat to see if shes ok then....
I need help guys, right now I'm off to scour the archives of this forum!
Thanks in advance.

How is that waterpump hooked up?
Did you bleed the cooling system correctly after the termostat install?
Whats the % water to coolant?
Is the rad cap holding its pressure?
just throwing out ideas....

Waterpump hooked up like the guides I've found on here, been in the car for 2+ years (summer driving only)
New coolant drain and refill last summer to possibly correct this problem - it didn't. She definitely lost coolant this time and will need more.
The % is at least 50/50
Not sure on the rad cap, how do I test it?
Thermostat was put in when I took her out of storage this year....
EDIT: coolant drain and fill was done at a shop, i watched

DON'T start your care with out the thermostat in it. You will be sorry. I had problems similar to yours and tried the very same thing and the PCM shut the car down causing lots of problems once I put the stat back in. OBD1 and OBD2 have pressure sensors of some kind.

In fact I did drive my car without a thermostat last year for quite some while testing to see what the problem was with my car, never once threw a code or had a hiccup in operation.
I had the same problem. However, it happened usually during city driving, and once i parked it, the overflow would be on! I did a flush and fill this last weekend, i have bled the bleeder screws, replaced the radiator cap (3$ AutoZone). Now, when im doing city driving, i just leave the heater on low speed, defrost which insures the low speed fan is always on. Since this, my temps hover just around 180 degrees. However, i would be curious to know why they overflow like they do. I know how you feel, it sucks to see that Sh** gushing out right by the battery.
My initial thought was to replace the thermostat, which i may do this weekend. Hopefully someone has experienced and corrected this problem and they have some insight.

I've read the archives and theres no clear direction, alot fo the threads go off on tangents.
If a radiator cap is that cheap to replace I'll get another one, but I don't think its the prob.
I noticed my engine fans didn't come on, in fact I can't remember when they last did since my a/c is less its refridgerant (so I don't use it) plus my temps never get past the digits on the middle of heat guage....where are the fans spose to come on?
please don't state the temp itself, because my car is Canadian so our numbers are different.

check you fuzes under the hood my did the same thing.....the problem was the fuse blown that controled my fans and air cylonois thing...cech that fuse its a 15 amp i think
Ok lets all forget about my fans for a while, I need to know what has caused my car to overheat - expecially since it happened on the highway.
Air pocket in the coolant? bad sensor? how come this never surfaced when I was on my huge roadtrip?
