LT1 / 700R4 / Stock stall / cc305
LT1 / 700R4 / Stock stall / cc305
I'm not looking to get a new transmission right now, the trans is in good shape as far as I know, i've never had problems with it. It's the 700R4, with stock stall.. My cam just arrived (cc305) and I was wondering if my transmission will handle the lt1 with this cam. On a few posts some people questioned why I was using this trans.. but right now it's my only choice , and only trans I have.
What can I expect from it? Is it going to reduce my rwhp by alot?

no it will not affect your rwhp the 700r4 is the same as the 4L60E just that yours isnt electric thats all, the cam will work good with that transmition, the custom cam i have is alittle bit bigger then the cc305 so i will work good with yours in my opinion.
I had a 10.5" 3200 stall behind my stock cam/motor. When I did the CC305 and ported heads, I had to go with a 9.5" 3800 stall. Your stock stall isn't going to like the CC305.
BTW, I've got a 700 in mine, too...It's spent 3 seasons in the 12's...High 12's for the first 2, and low 12's last season. I've built 700's for mid 10 second cars.

ProTorque Converters...Both my 3200 and my 3800 have been ProTorque converters.

With the current set-up, I'm pulling 1.67 60 ft. times with a completely stock suspension.

BTW, I build automatic transmissions for a living (14 years). A shop I worked at for 7 years has it's own converter shop. This gave me the luxury of seeing what's inside many manufactuerers converters.
That being said...There are only 2 that I'd recommend. ProTorque and Precision Ind. (Vigilante).

You probably hear more about them burning up, not breaking...Remember, they haven't made 700's since 1993. So, the newest one's are 10 years old. The original 700 trans in my '93 Z lasted 90,000 miles.
700's are actually a little better suited for racing, because you don't rely on a computer to shift it. Although, I can claim one 60E that I built that runs consistant 11.0's @ 124 MPH, in DRIVE!
700's are easier to retro into cars that originally had 6-speeds, or any other transmission. I have one 700 in an AC Cobra replica with a 350 ZZ4 crate motor that runs low 11's.
