LT1 383 Stroker

I have a bare block Lt1 right now and I am wanting to build me a 383. How many people use their 2 bolt main motors to make a 383. Basically what I am asking is will a stock Lt1 b lock hold up to that power. Also is it possible to make the block 4 bolt mains.

thanks
Josh

This will be my first motor build so If you can think of anything else I need to know don't bother speaking up.

You'll have no problem with the 2 bolt. But if you are really worried about it, you could always splay the 2 bolt and it would be stronger than a 4 bolt....

2 bolts are good up to like 600, I'm not sure. I've never heard of anyone having a problem with the 2 bolt.

It is not a huge deal to make a 383 LT1 engine. There are a few things that are important to note. First, the 2 bolt block will easily handle 600+hp with ARP main studs. Second, you will be money ahead to use a forged steel crank as the cast cranks will not balance on the front half without adding Mallory metal which about equals the price of upgrading to the steel crank. Third, not only do you need to clearance the block where the rods will hit but unless you get a small base circle cam, you will need to clearance the upper corner of your rods by the bolt head. Finally, on the LT1 engines you must make sure you get the correct year woodruff key for the timing gear on your crank or you will need to notch the damper hub to fit a normal SBC key. Shoot me an email if you have any more questions.

the amount of clearancing will also depend on the rods you choose, leght, H or I etc

what is H or I, as far as the rods go I thought you just had to get 3.75 rods. Or am I completely wrong?

thanks

H= h beam rods

I=Ibeam rods

your 3.75 is your crank, with a stroker some go with 5.7 inch rods, some go with 6 inch rods, and theres another size its like 5.85 or something

I just left Books-A-Million. There were several 383 Chevy build books there in the transportation section. Good luck.

I didnt know that about the cast cranks. Is that a factory 400ci or a 1 piece cast for LT1 cranks that has to have metal added? A guy tried to sell me a CAST 1 piece rear mn seal LT1 383 crank yesterday for$200.
