Re: Lt1 383 build kits....

That's close but ya might want to touch the machine work price up another 500.
The last one I had done was 1100 and no main caps(already a 4 bolt). That's for bore, deck and equal deck, balance, bore lifter bores, clean, cam brgs and freeze plugs.Clearance it myself.

It runs like what ya paid for it....
That isn't always true. Just because people spend more on unesseccary parts (i.e. forged parts) that doesn't mean that it will run better, but will help with strength. Don't get me wrong, sometimes people do need to upgrade to forged internals but why buy them if it isn't nesseccary?

Honestly, I doubt the original poster is looking for much over 400 hp. That said, try Golen... http://www.golenengineservice.com/html/lt1_lt4.html

BTW, why would you need to spend $20k to get 650 fwhp out of a small block? A decent short block and a good set of heads (not talking 23* here) should be capable of doing that for under $20k. Heck, buy an LS7 and do a cam swap, you're still under $20k.

If I wanted an LS7 I wouldn't have done a LT1. Got almost half of that in the top end.
Don't have the luxury of a power adder like some folks.
The best 23* heads are about 5500.00. A Wilson EFI intake is 3700.00 Ya get a GOOD crank, rods and pistons 2200.00. Machine shop 1100.00. Cam and train 1900.00.Oil pan and pump 500.00. Timing chain 400.00. Fuel system 1000.00.Rockers 1200.00. Balancer,,wires, V covers, gaskets, dist 1100.00. TB 500.00. Rings and bearings 600.00= 19,700.00 am I close.
If people want to short dollar a job so be it.
I have put together 383's for less but they ain't very fast, descent, but not fast. It's what the customer had the wallet for .

That's 650+ N/A.

Re: Lt1 383 build kits....

If I was serious about 650 hp NA, I would ditch the LT1 in favor of a 400 block with a 4.00" crank (434 cid). Add a set of Brodix 18x heads with a good quality port job, matching intake machined for injectors, either a 90 neck with a 58mm holley or one of their 4bbl TBs. Custom roller cam to match the heads.

If I was staying LT1 I would do about the same with a 383, but I would opt for the dart heads instead and use the offset valve train since it would need to be turned harder.

Did you seriously spend $400 dollars on a timing chain and $1200 on rockers?

The class I want to run can't do that.
23*,factory computer, pump gas, tires under the fender, with the engine it was shipped with(or everybody would have BB). Anything else goes except power adders. Class for late model EFI cars.

Well get a custom set for these converted heads. You will pay 1200 too if ya want shaft rockers. Jessel's are way more than that for these heads (2600) and they are the only people who had them. I sent the heads and these were made for the heads.
The Wilson intake Will outflow one of his Super Victors.
These heads will kill a set of Dart's and the mono blade costs way more than any 58MM made and flows a lot more.

O I forgot to put the Shubeck lifter's on the list.

You didn't mention class restrictions. Still kinda neat.

Yea, O DR only.Stock "TYPE" suspension. Full interior. Ya can bet I have been under and and around and replaced most everything under the car. Spone, narrowed 9" and a bunch of tricks. Can't put a brake on the 4L60E,soooo got to make up for it.
The only thing I got going against me is weight. It'll weight close to 3600lbs with the FastFatBoy driving. If I drove ya can knock that down to about 3400.
