What windage tray options (other than stock) do I have?

I was at the machine shop working on assembling my short block tonight and realized the stock windage try isn't going to clear the crank/rods. It's an Eagle forged crank (stock stroke) and Eagle H-beam 6" rods. We actually had to clearance the block in 3 places for the rods. Anyway, the stock windage tray definitely isn't going to work. I've got the ARP studs in there that are longer to accomodate windage trays, I just need to know where to look for a tray that will work. Stock oil pan.........

Did you try clearancing the tray with a hammer?

i prefer heating them with a torch in the place that needs to be 'clearanced' and then using a ball-peen hammer to make the necessary 'adjustments'. this way you can fix the problem without having to loose 1/2 your teeth and grow a mullet.

I have not tried to "massage" the tray with a hammer yet. I thought there might be a tray I could get that would work better than stock and just bolt in. I'll call summit today and see what they say.

I have the miloden diamond stripper and ARP stud kit, but I'm not sure that the studs are going to be long enough after some searching and reading.

Theres another post around with some pics of the miloden diamond stripper tray on a stroker, but I can't find it.

david reher still prefers solid trays because the screen type trays dont do as much to stop the oil from being whipped up in the pan.

Re: What windage tray options (other than stock) do I have?

Found this at Summit- MIL-30909 (milodon oil pan)

Sorry I don't have a link to the page....

Picture- http://static.summitracing.com/globa...il-30909_w.jpg

Specs-
*driver and passenger side kick outs
*up to 4.00" stroke with stock rod
*windage tray included (looks like it bolts to the pan)
*6 quart capacity
*designed to accomodate Eagle or Carillo style rod

$256.88

So I guess with this I can get a higher capacity pan, with a windage tray included that will work with what I've got. I'm sure they sell an oil pump pickup that will work with this pan. What do you guys think?

thats a nice pan. youll probably have to run their pickup and dipstick and hopefully your pump will fit their pickup.

Re: What windage tray options (other than stock) do I have?

Wow, this thread's been around for a while! I might as well update what I did since it's up near the top again. I got a Canton road race oil pan for the 4th gen LT1. I also got their pickup and a melling standard volume pump with a 3/4" pickup. Everything seems to fit just fine, and it came with low oil level sensor provisions and provisions for an oil temperature sending unit. The low oil lever sensor is a bit close to the Hooker long tubes since the sides of this pan are kicked out farther, but it clears.

That was back when my assembly room had much less crap in it, now there are a few motors, about 10-15 sets of heads, everything from SB2, 18°, C5R and of course the AFR and TFS LT1 castings.

The Milodon setup can be used in the stock pan with ARP studs and trimming the pan but don't expect the oil level sensor to fit unless you cut the tray up for it. I still like the Canton setup better though.

If ya get a Canton have them modify it to clear the steering rack. I dropped the rack down on the BMR to clear instead of two weeks back and fourth with the pan.
