Lt1 383 build kits....
Lt1 383 build kits....
I just recently purchased a LT1/T56 combination and was wanting to do a few things to it to perk it up, but since selling my 4 wheeler, I have some extra cash and am considering having someone build me a 383. The reason I need someone to do it for me is mainly because I dont have the time for it, and secondly Im not extremely familiar with building an engine like that. Im in the Houston area, so If anyone knows of anyone, let me know. If you know of any prices please include them.

Re: Lt1 383 build kits....
NeverEverSatisfied, do YOU build them or have them built? I talked to Erick at HPE and it was around $2,000 for a bottom end rebuild everything forged except the crank. Where do you take yours? How long do the motors last?

By the time I am done with my solid roller 383 LT4 I will be up around 20k when you add in all the extra mods including the 12 bolt and tranny beef up.

rock 1501, I do know that I will need much, MUCH more than just a new bottom end. Thanks for making sure I knew though.
NeverEverSatisfied, that sounds like the best way to go. Own a shop and everything will be discounted or "free." I'm going to have to look into getting one of those.

Dang guys, I am having a hard time concieving my 355 for under 7-8 grand.
You can grab a forged shortblock for $2500-$4000, then you get into the heads which aren't cheap. A good set of heads and cam will set you back a couple more grand.
Then you got to add in injectors, tb, fuel pump, lifters, rockers, gaskets, bolts. etc. (you get the point) thats another grand or two.
So see, right there thats $7-8 grand....and thats probably missing alot of stuff.
Labor, machine work, etc.

My 383 in just parts was over 20,000. I have my own shop and do my own work and customers too.
I have more in the top end than most people spend on the car and a 383.
It runs like what ya paid for it....
