LT installation questions

Alright, I am convinced that lt's are the way to go.

1.First off does anyone know a good brand of coated headers that will last a long time?

2.What would i have to do to keep the car problem free, and keep the ses light off?

3.What else would i need to keep these mods working at the best potential, such as a tune, O2 simulators, or a knock module?

4.I want to keep the egr system and air system functioning, would i need emission headers with these?

5.The car( 97 z28) is also driven year round in minnesota, would lt's be ok in these conditions?

6.Would running no cats be to loud with the borla cat back, or should i run some high flow cats?

7.I am not planing on doing any other modifications such as a cam, or throttle body, would the headers still be a good idea?

8.kind of a stupid question, but how would this affect mpg?

9.One more question is how much do you guys think all this would cost?

I know that i am asking alot of questions, i greatly appreciate all the help.

thanks.

Re: LT installation questions

1. I'm running ceramic coated Pacesetter Long Tubes. They are pretty good quality for the price. Jet-Hot, Hooker, and Kooks are also other top brands.
2. If you are running the AIR and EGR style headers and use 02 simulators for the post-cat 02s then you shouldn't get an SES light. Otherwise, depending on the problem, tuning may be necessary.
3. A tune is a good idea for long tubes and 02 sims. are necessary if you do not want an SES light. A knock module is always a good, cheap idea to do along with your headers.
4. Yes, you will need headers with both AIR and EGR fittings.
5. I drive around town with my long tubes and they cause me no problems. I certainly wouldn't drive in the snow with my car, but that is just a matter of personal preference.
6. The addition of cats. will probably take away the raspiness effect that most people complain about. When I installed dual cats. on my car, I did not notice a change in sound or raspiness. Then again, I am running the Magnaflow catback which is a much quieter exhaust as compared to the Borla in my opinion.
7. Even though you are not doing cam/heads, the headers are still a good idea. With the headers and a mail-order tune from www.madz28.com, I definitely noticed a seat of the pants improvement.
8. With the headers, your mpgs are supposed to improve a little bit. My Camaro is actually getting better mpgs then my 2000 Grand Prix GTP.
9. Breakdown of costs for myself:
Headers 430.00
Y-pipe 130.00
Two Cats. 150.00
Labor to weld in cats. 125.00
Fel-Pro Header Gaskets 20.00
Plugs/wires/knock module 120.00

Re: LT installation questions

2000 gtp
What kind of cats did you use, also would high flow cats cause any power loss?

Also, does anyone know if these modifications would cause any part of the car to wear out faster compared to stock?
thanks again.

Re: LT installation questions

Heres a link, http://216.178.81.107/iwwida.pvx?;it...0%201?comp=ppe

They are high-flow 3" mini-cats... power loss will be very minimal if any with these. As for the headers wearing out any part of the car, I highly doubt it, you just may need a new pair of front 02 sensors, it seems common that these fail after a header install.
