LT-1 sounds like a farm truck

My car sounds like a damn farm truck when I crank it, and untill it gets to temperature.. My car had a vavle job 20k miles ago, Lt-4 vavle springs, and a mild comp cam. I've tightend the valves several times with the car running.. afraid to get them much tighter. any ideas?

I take it you are trying to say it has excessive valve train noise? You've replaced everything but lifters it looks like. You might also want to check for exhaust leaks, they can sometimes be masked as valvetrain noise.

I'm sorry, I have new lifters too, I'm pretty sure it's valve trian noise, I've used stethiscope (spelling?) I'm going to be installing my headers soon. I guess I will find out for sure if it's exhuast leaks then.

Are you using stock rockers? Roller rockers are known for a little more noise. How are you adjusting the valves?

yea stock rockers, I"m adjusting them with the car running. First I use a stethiscope to figure out which ones seem to be making the most noise. I turn the nut 1/4 to a 1/2 turn, I'm scare to over tighten.. And yes I know the best way to adjust them is with a feeler gauge and the car off.. but that's time consuming. I did that when I first put the motor back together.

I had alot of valve traing noise before I rebuilt my motor and after new lifters, rods, springs, cam, complete valve job. It's the same.

Re: LT-1 sounds like a farm truck

When I was taking my stock manifolds off to put on my headers, the back bolts on both sides were only finger tight, and I could see where the exhuast had been leaking. After installing headers alot of the noise went away, and now I can better hear what is vavle noise, and it seems to be mainly one valve that is making most of it. So I will just tighten it.

yes a exhaust leak ticking is like 10x louder than any valve train noise.
