LS6/Z06 MAF on LT1

Looking into overhauling my air intake, and I'd like to switch to a better MAF. I'd like to get a 2001-up LS1 or LS6 MAF, since they seem to be the cheapest, and program my PCM with the new calibration table. Rewiring for the new sensor should be no problem. However, looking at the tables, I notice that the newer sensors go up to 12000 Hz, and the LT1 table stops at 11216 Hz (looks like the 98-00 LS1 stops at about the same place). I'm concerned that the LT1 PCM won't like trying to count that high a frequency; it doesn't seem like it would be a problem, but I don't know how GM set up the fixed point calculations in the PCM. Has anyone tried this, and if so, how did it turn out?

I have seen a few people on here have done this converson. I would like to know this info as well.

I had one for a few years, save your money. At the end of the day it just gives tuners headaches. I did not see any HP improvments nor any MPG improvments. I sold it and am running the stock MAF sensor on my car, and alot of people are running the stock ones still. Hell I still have the screen on mine. Only thing i changed was the halfs with Nitrous Express halfs for nitrous.

The stock MAF is not a meaningful restriction on even the wildest NA motors. Ed Wright's over 500rwhp through an A4 car gains single digits from going speed density and that is with a level of tuning few of us will ever have put into our cars.

That said the newer MAFs can be made to work, I tried the ZO6 one when it was new to the market and it was a train wreck, I ended up selling it to someone with a LSX swap into an older car.

That said if I endup needing to purchase a new MAF I will try a newer one again, some folks I trust are telling me thay have overcome the tuning snags BH and myself hit when I tried the ZO6 MAF years ago.

The biggest issue with the bigger MAF is the way it reports electronics. \\You see one of the main reasons we used to run a bigger MAF was to get more usable flow reported at a lower level.

Why you may ask? By getting more air in the engine at a lower reported fequency FROM the MAF to the PCM you can re-calibrate the tune and not max the tables.

I will admit it takes a truley talented tuner to get it done.

The Z06 and other lrage GM MAFs do not help mainly because they still report air flowing and the same rate as a stock LT1 MAF It may be bigger but there is no gain because it Maxes at the same time a LT1 MAF does.

What would be needed to truely make it work the way some would like? MAF electronics in a bigger housing that would report less actual air flow. To go with this the tune would need to be completely re-writen to match You WOULD have less Resilution in the tune but it would be worth it.


For 95% or more of the cars out there it is not a needed option The other 5% eventuly go to an after market ECM
