I have had both and currently have both lt1 and ls1.Quick review.
Lt1 think sound better with good exhaust.lt1 engine looks better to me.Lt1 seems to have more bottom end snap stock for stock.
Lt1 have opticrap but now they have replacements for that stupid gm idea. And lt1 do get intake manifold leak had it twice on my 97 ta but not yet on my 96 vert.
LS1 faster out of the box..around 350 I think actual engine hp where the lt1 is close to rated output. Ls1 no optipuke.not quite 5 minutes to change plugs..those back ones can be bad on passenger side but headers can make them easier for sure.
Ls1 no intake manifold leaks.I do not seem to have high oil consumption on my ls1 maybe if I drive it hard and I usually do a quart every 3000 or so..thats no big deal to me.I only put 5000 miles or so a year on my ls1 anyway its the garage queen.

Ls1 a bit easier to work on ..cam changes very easy compared to lt1.Sound of ls1 still nice with good exhaust but lt1 is better.LS1 ugly engine but love the looks of my ls1 ws6.The front end ,the side air extractors and the honeycomb lights..perfect to me.
My lt1 vert can still pull heads though too.

Parts are a bit cheaper and more common used for lt1 there are more of them out there.Parts for ls1 were super high but now headers, cams and heads are cheaper than they were and not too bad.Still a bit high but hey what can you do.Rear ends are garabage in both lt1 and ls1.I think lt1 cluthes are better and lt1 six speeds I think were better build but the newer ls1 trannies htink 2001 and up are a bit better.Ls1 clutches well they seem to have some good aftermarket ones now.Don't like how the slave is inside the master in the ls1 though pain to change it.

Both cars have been pretty reliable. My 97 had intake manifold leak twice.I fixed it once and it came back on next owner I guess.
My ls1 needed a new clutch..I burnt it up and thats about it.

My current lt1 just had the water pump die at 60,000 miles and think the passenger window motor isn't long for this world. And my opti might go or be going soon due to the water pump dying.
Plan on delteq replacement system for opti solution.

So either way you can have a nice fast car..choose your weapon.. LOL
