LS1 Brake Swap?
LS1 Brake Swap?
Im going to replace my back brakes this weekend because Im metal on metal. The fronts are fine for now. Here is my question...I have a rear brake setup from an LS1, would I be better off to swap that setup on now and do the front at a later time? or is this gonna screw my SS up? Is the LS1 swap a huge improvement? Thanks
I think the LS1 rear kit is a huge PITA being that it includes an integral parking brake inside the rotor hat. (Drum parking brake)
I can't see any point in upgrading to LS1 rears, just fix whatever is wrong with yours.
Fronts are a very worthy upgrade, however.

Or go with the C5 upgrade if you've got 17" wheels and can find a set of Bob Bishops brackets (out of production?). Did it to my 95Z a couple months ago...and WOW! Total cost for the fronts was about $800.
An SS girl...allright!! Anyways...my rear brakes sucked...parking brake never worked from day 1...pads wore out quick. I put the rear LS1 setup on and all my problems went away. It wasn't that hard to do, took about an hour and a half or so. Biggest thing is that the rear end cover has to come off because you have to pull the axle shafts.
Personally, I think the rear LS1 rear brake swap is more trouble than it is worth. Besides the parking brake, they are not much better than the LT1 setup. The money is better spent elsewhere.
Get LS1 brakes on the front though.
