Lowering the fans turn on temp??

Is computer tuning the only way to lower the fans turn on temp? Or is there a coolant sensor that can be swapped out like on older cars?

since you have obd1 can't you buy the jet fan switch? it goes into teh coolant track somewhere and turns the fans on at like 180....

Alright, thanks, that's kinda what I was thinking. I'll just wire in my own switch. I've seen plenty of write-ups on that topic.

jet fan switch

SLP fan switch

i would look into the ecm reprogram, pcmforless or madwolf do obd1 ecm's for like $100. you'd get a lower fan setting, and any other tuning that you may want...fuel curve, spark, rev limiter, !egr, !air....
all in one package that is easy to install and works all the time (so you don't accidentaly leave the switch on)

I'm a Tunercat user, buying the cable is a good move anyway. I used Freescan do dump codes and helped me find out that my Opti was bad, so long ago, when I didn't know WTH was wrong with the car.

The cable doesn't cost that much, Freescan is free.

Can you edit anything with freescan? Or is it just a scan tool? I would like to get some editing software, but I'd have to get a laptop first.

Freescan is just for logging and code dumping, I use Tunercat for my tuning stuff. Its I believe $69 program + 20 definition file.
