low rpm surge solved, was a $30 part

got my lt4 knock module today. Took me about 5 min to install, I fired her up and omg, idle is much choppier and its revs about twice as fast. No more stumble around 1500rpms. If you dont have a knock module, get one. I must have had a ton of false knock after the cutout, cam, and roller rockers. The car is totally different now. Does false knock really take away that much throughout the rpm range?

with roller rockers an Lt4 module is a MUST....no wonder you were running bad.

seems i've read a good amount of knock can rob upwards of 20hp...

i just ordered mine earlier today for the heck of it...

i am having that low rpm surge also, but my car is stock besides a catback. i will see if the the lt4 module helps. i actually had mine on order before i read this post and now i am thinking it may be the cause of the problem. only time will tell. thanks for the suggestion. by the way for others out there, the gm part # for the LT 4 knock module is 16214681. the delco # for this part is 216-67.

you mentioned your putting an lt4 sensor in. what advantage does the lt4 sensor have over the lt1 sensor? i am assuming you mean the knock sensor.

Probably meant module. There is no LT4 specific knock sensor.

Uh.... the LT4 KM is not a must. I have a solid roller 396 motor and have used both the LT1 and LT4 KM. I didn't see any difference.

I have been running the LT1 KM as a result and solving the KR source instead.

YMMV,

Dave, I know you have not seen a difference in your setup between the LT1 or LT4 km but what would you attribute the difference in performance to in this guys case if it wasn't the km? He didn't change anything else but the km and noticed that much of a change. I assume with your setup that you have done some programming changes too with LT1 edit and I wonder if you have changed some table, value etc that is overriding the knock module or something to that effect? I'm just curious because I notice that you often tell people the LT4 km is basically useless but it does seem to be beneficial for a lot of other people.

I guess that I would ask if they rebooted the PCM when they did the swap? Pull the battery or PCM fuse? Remove the PCM connectors to get access to the PCM?

This will all clear the PCM's learned parameters and will affect for a short time how the motor runs.

That and the old SOTP "affect" is what I would attibute it to. By this I mean the "I think I feel a difference" without actual logged data that supports it.

As I said, your experience may differ, but I jumped on that bandwagon about 3 years ago when everyone else did and jumped right off when I found it didn't work.

The KR in my case was a result of metal to metal contact which I identified corrected. KR issue solved.

P.S. I feel the same way strongly about power pullies, airfoils, IAT mods, etc. Nothing comes free or cheap. Power costs money.

That's true, I didn't think about the PCM being reset while installing it. I honestly never noticed any difference when I installed mine, but that was about two years ago and before I had any mods that would have had an effect on knock anyway. I agree with you on the other mods like the airfoil, IAT they probably do next to nothing. I do think pullies help somewhat though, certainly no 10 rwhp increase but they must be good for a couple
