Low rpm backfire/stumble only when cold
Low rpm backfire/stumble only when cold
I have only had this 94 vette for a few days now and this has only happened twice.
When the car has sat over night and you start it, it starts fine, runs fine. when you get it out on the road, it runs fine except for when you give it a little gas but not enough to make it down shift. It backfires and kind of falls on its face. This only goes on for a little while, until it gets half way up to operating temp. When its doing this and you make it downshift, it revs up fine and runs great. It would make since to just say that the motor is cold and needs to warm up, but have never had this happen with any other vehicle or either of the other two lt1's ive had. And i know its nothing like a fuel pump or opti. Got any ideas?

Well, I don't have an answer to the problem, but my 97 has been doing the same thing. I haven't worried about it to much yet unless I get a code or something. My first guess was that when I parked it at night it moisture condensed in the dist and causes it, but I'm not sure.

Could be fuel filter or the pump.
When cold the engine needs more fuel, especially when not pushing the accelerator enough to down shift...."lugging" the engine cold requires the most enrichment of any running mode.
Try a fuel filter first, then I would check the pump.

Thanks guys, ill pick up a fuel filter this weekend and slap it on there. It wont hurt anything if thats not it anyways, and they arent to expensive..
Back when i had my first lt1 the fuel pump went out but the first signs of it was on startup. Ill try the filter, and if it doesnt work, maybe just let it go for a while unless it gets worse. Like i said, it only happens when the car is at very low temps.
