LOW IDLE!! Please Help

I was warming up my car today and it was idling very low, it was at 500 rpms, and then i thought it was just cause it was cold but then like 10 minutes later of driving, it idles down to 500-600 rpms. Is that like too low?

Thanks

When you first start the car up, do the RPMs spike up then come down to 500-600 within seconds or when you start the car does it immediately go to 500-600? If it immediately idles low after starting it I'd say you need to start by cleaning your idle air control valve. Might just take the throttle body off and thoroughly clean it.

No it goes up to like 1100 then stays at 900 for like a minute then starts to get down to 600 and 500

Well if the RPMs go up then come down I really don't know what to tell you. Normal idle should be around 650 in gear. Might run some fuel system cleaner through the system.

What exactly do you clean the Idle air control valve with? Regular soap and water?

I used throttle body spray cleaner on mine, it's in an aerosol can and you can find it at a local autoparts store.

Stock idle speed programed in the PCM for an A4 is 650rpm in neutral and 550rpm in drive.

Also check you intake elbow and make sure it is not ripped and getting more or less air after the sensor. Most tears are right before the throttle body.

On that subject... The rubber slip collar from my K&N cai to the MAF is messed up. Anyone know where I can get just that rubber piece?

FYI, My car does that same thing, running down into the 500rpm range even after it warms up. I will try the recommended cleaning and let you know.

Also keep in mind that your tachometer may be off. Stock GM tachs are not a model of precision, mine read 200 RPM high
