Checked everything except at the pump itself. Hissing could be what you said, it not leaking fuel anywhere. Car takes a good amount of time to start up, that's what I can't stand. New pressure gauge I just hooked up broke already. Guess the sending unit took a crap.

How do I check the valve at the pump? could a hose at the pump be leaking?

Re: low fuel pressure

In most cases the check valve in the pump is internal to the pump.

The correct way to check is to install the "test" lines with valves, at the point where the nylon fuel lines connect to the hard lines. Then you pressure the system and immediately close the valve on the supply line. If the pressure holds, that means the problem is between the fuel pump and the point where the nylon lines connect to the hard lines, most likely the check valve or the internal flex line in the tank. But I've never seen the test line kit except at a dealer shop.

Some people have used a pair of vise grips or pliers to pinch the return line, but I would strongly recommend against doing that to the nylon lines.

Ok.

Now this is nothing against anyone on this forum but I know you and shbox are the"go to"guys so I will ask this. If it were you having this issue what would you do? I don't want to pinch the lines. I will pull the pump and see if I can see anything at all wrong.

Re: low fuel pressure

I would not pinch the line. You could check to see if any auto parts store near you has a kit with the shutoff valves, that you could borrow with a deposit? Or (hate to say this----) do you know a dealer who would give you access to the kit? Or test it for you?

When you cycle the key quickly, does the engine start quicker?

I have braided S/S lines, so it's easy to add a valve.

what brand of pumps have you been putting in? Some of the brands may be notorious for certain failures. It wasn't long ago I was reading about one with lines that break down in fuel and they are submerged in it most of the time lol. I have read of knock off walboro pumps being sold as walboro. As Fred suggested cycle the key a few times and see if it helps your startup time. In reguards to the go to guys I was joking around a little on a post and have given Shoebox James Earl Jones voice and Injuneer Morgan Freemans voice. I believe we can all agree they give great imput and are highly reguarded.

Lol. Funny but makes sense. They are awesome when it comes to the info they give. I could only hope after many years I can know as much as they do.

How hard is it to switch to a walbro pump?

Just got the new sending unit for my pressure gauge, pulled the pump. The rubber hose going from the pump to the return line didn't have a clamp and the hose was loose around the metal return line. Put a clamp on it and still not full pressure but it bleeds down a little slower. Any ideas?

Re: low fuel pressure

How fast does it bleed down? I think the factory spec is something like 5psi or less loss in 10 minutes.

It goes right down just a few seconds slower.

If the fuel pump is inside the white plastic bucket and the check valve is on that bucket, how can I fix this issue. If I buy an aftermarket pump, can it go inside the bucket also? If so, how does that fix the check valve?

Re: low fuel pressure

The check valve is part of the pump.

some of the aftermarket pumps go in the bucket and some do not. The walboro is a popular choice because it does. It also installs fairly easy I got the racetronix version of it with hotwire kit and partially dropped tank and cut the trap door all at once and made it through ok except I messed up something for the guage that will have to track down eventually.

I'm going to take a video of the pressure bleeding down now compared to it just dropping imediately after priming.

Goes to the link, but "watch video" produces no results.
