low cooling fans is not enough

well i reprogram my fans to turn on at 185*. as you all know, if i turn on the AC the fans will turn on at low speed. well, today, the temp reach up to 87* here, and the traffic was packed. i drove right in the middle of the traffic for about 40 minutes. the temp did not go above the middle mark yet, but it was going there very slowly. i had the AC all the time, and the temp is still going up very very slowly. i'm guessing, the temp rouse like 5 degree every 30 minutes or so. is this normal?? is there anyway i can turn the high speed fans at 185* through reprograming the PCM?? thanks guys

what you described sounds normal, the temp does rise with the a/c and the low fan on over time. I suggest a fan switch, do a search or make a post for shoebox to send you the diagram. I looked at his diagram, then the switch went in the following day with ease for under ten bucks.

depends on how you run the switch. If you use single pull double through switch yeah. You tap the greenish wire and blueish wire and send ground each independantly. Then you can turn on either the low or high speed fans at your lessure.

Search for fan switch, in fact i think shoebox just posted a link to his diagram on one of the first pages of the LT1 board.

here is the actual schematic, there are a lot of places with simpler methods. Such as how you can tap the two need wires right from the fuse panel under the hood.

The high and low speeds can be programmed independently if that is what you want. Then you won't need a fan switch.

If it's free, do it. Then you won't have to worry about turning anything on/off.

The question is.. the rule is that both fan A and B are on for all of them to go into high speed right?

What are you saying? As far as I know, pre 96 lt1s had one fan come on for low speed, and both came on for high speed. Then after that, both came on for low speed, and both picked up for high speed. I think it was whenever they switched to OBDII.
