Low Coolant Sensor...

What kind of clip(s) hold the low coolant sensor onto the radiator? Can you get these are an autoparts store or only through a dealership?

I'm not sure... however if you replace it make sure its snaps into place correctly!!!! I only had one side snapped in correctly and it blew off while I was stuck in bumper to bumper traffic....and I basically blew my motor when it over heated.

Seems like a lot of people have this low coolent sensor problem as do I. Is it a real PITA to get to and what should I use to clean it with?

Shoebox has an excellent picture of where it is for those who are wondering.

Low coolant sensor

When I do work on anything to do with coolant in truck engines or fuel in fuel tanks, I use a shop vac on the tank opening. Only a couple of drops will drip out when you pull out the sensor making it easy to do and no need to drain out the coolant.

Try removing the battery, it makes acess to the sensor much easier.

I got mine at O'Reillys for about $45. It is a metal clip that holds it on and yes it is a PITA to get to unless you remove the battery.

I have a clip you can have? But, it will take a few days to get there.

Take a shop vac and a hose preferably 5/8 and attach it to the end of the shop vac hose. I used duct tape. lol Then put the small hose into your rad opening. We use a plastic plug with a hose fitting that we shoved into the middle of a plastic plug. I have used a rag before, works not too bad either.

I was thinking the same thing, remove the batter to get to the sensor. Thanks 94zgreenmachine

Replaced mine today (coolant level sensor) - it was a breeze. Took the
battery out. Pulled the clip off the sensor. Twisted it slightly (clockwise
and counter-clockwise) - had a short piece of 1/2 hose ready. Then,
pulled the old sensor out and pushed the hose in. I readied the new
sensor, pulled the hose out and inserted the new sensor in. I lost,
maybe, a cup of coolant.

The new sensor came with a new wire clip.

So judging by shoeboxes picture, the clips are pulled straight up?

They are pulled outward from the top and bottom.

What is the best to use to clean the sensor? Just a rag and water or any chemicals?
