loudest intake setup?
loudest intake setup?
call me crazy, but im serious
on both of my trucks ive had the aftermarket intake systems i installed really made some noise under the hood when you put your foot down ... compared to the factory setup. putting my SLP CAI on my camaro didnt really do anything in that aspect. i hear an initial "sip" when opening the throttle that wasnt there before, but thats it. Ive read on this board that people like the noise their cold air setups make... i dont hear much of anything from mine, even when i turn the TB from the engine bay
are LT1 intakes just quiet in comparison to other things or is mine just a church mouse? I just like noisy intakes, so im wondering if the ram air intake might be more a more audible setup. I already have the hood so changing to ram air wouldnt be very difficult.
opinions?
btw... no im not considering descreening my MAF

Re: loudest intake setup?
Maybe one of those famous "tornados" make noise--dunno, but it probably wouldn't cost you much to find out since there probably quite a few people who have them somewhere in their garage.JMHO
Re: loudest intake setup?
The Ram Air setup is "audible", at least mine is. But that's with the top cut completely open, no MAF, a 58mm TB and the Fernco sewer pipe connector instead of the cheesy stock bellows.
Or put a Vortech X-trim on it and the induction sounds will blow your mind.....

Re: loudest intake setup?
I'm running Kooks headers with dual open collectors and 18" collector extensions on my LT1 bracket car. Who cares about the FI air intake sound, those dual open collectors are the best sound in the world!

Re: loudest intake setup?
so an upgraded throttle body could make the noise im looking for? thats a lot of pocket change, but ill look into it i guess. I think im gonna try and find a used ram-air box first and see how that goes.
Re: loudest intake setup?
Ive got the K&N FIPK and a 52mm BBK TB and mine whistles loudly under acceleration... Ive had more than one person think I have a blower and ask me...
I kinda like the sound..

Re: loudest intake setup?
Ok my air intake on my car sounds like a vacum cleaner and here is what i did to make it sound that way. First get ram air because you already have the ss hood. Then get a high flow air filter like a k/n or a airhog and put that in the ram air box. Then get rid of that stock intake elbow because that thing will kill your sound, and do not replace it with a rubber one because a metal will have a better sound. Then get 58mm tb and port the intake if you like and bam you will have that air intake scream. Trust me this works because I use the same setup on my car and it sounds like a darn vacum cleaner is under the hood. Do not descreen your Maf those wires are very sensitive and that screen is in there to protect it.
