Well the lifters helped a lot, still hear it a bit, but i think its just normal rocker noise.

Same problem here. Sapped out my comp r lifters with a set of the ls7 lifters and the noise was noticeably reduced, however I could still here it under the driver side valve cover... Personally I think it might have something to do with my pro mag rockers, I've taken an old one apart and found brinelling (wear)of the inner race which if occurring normally could account for a lot of the noise. I plan to buy a few new ones this winter, swap out the suspect rockers and see if that helps once springs comes around.
Just a thought- I wonder if the roller rockers get enough oil/lubrication on rebuilt non-oem valvetrains, (new lifters, pushrods and rockers) where, for some reason a certain combination of parts limits the oil flow?

When I changed my lifters from "R"s to gmpp's the valve train got a little quietter, but it made the tick stand out more. heads are coming off, #7 intake valve guide is worn out, I am wondering what caused this after 200 miles. was this overlooked at the head shop and assembly lube was keeping it quiet? or maybee it had none and was dry on start up.

my wifes WS6 has a tick that I believe is a lifter, I am changing out the heads with my old ones off my old lt1, well not really old just had the heads gone through, and replacing the lifters with LS7's and putting my cran gold 1,6's on them. Hoping all those paerts will stop it. But of corse that is after I get my 383 going. lol. her tick is more aggrivating then anything. I can tell hers is coming from the drivers side

****EVERYONE WITH THE TICKING****

What guide plates are you running? Rocker Arms? Valve Springs? Most of us have it on the drivers side. And I am 100% positive it is NOT the lifters.

I am running ISKY Adjustable Guideplates, Did not have to weld/grind anything on them. Comp 7/16" 1.6 Pro Mags, 918 Beehive's, & Comp Hi-Tech pushrods.

When I did the cam, the pushrods all seemed fine, but I never really looked at the guideplates to see if it is a source or the sound ???

I just switched from self-aligning rockers to NSA's. The engine is a bit quieter with the NSA's. The right side sounds like a sewing machine and the left has a slight tick. Even though very close, it looks like I have a slight amount of pushrod/guide clearance at the bottom of the guide's slot. When installing the guide plates, I held them down toward the header's side when tightening. This gave me a little more clearance on the downside of the slot. Side to side, the guideplates aligned the rockers near pefect.

My combo: 918 springs, TrickFlow guide plates and 7.150 hardened pushrods, .050 longer valves, 606/622 lift cam, 7/16" Comp Cams Pro Magnum rockers, GMPP lifters, ARP 7/16" rocker studs.

the only way to tell for sure is to pull the guideplates on the suspect side and check them for wear

Correct me if I am wrong, if you have to use ajustable guideplates to get the rocker tip pefectly allighned with the valvetip, the push rod will be moving up and down at a slight angle with the guide plate, will this cause noise?

no. its not. there will always be side-to-side contact and there should not be noise from that. its when the pushrod smacks the bottom that a noise is created, and you can only imagine how it effects the geometry and valve events

and there is no stock guideplates for a lt1

Did you check ....

Motor Mounts? My 94 Z did this to me & drove me totally insane Took me forever to find it. Lashed my lifters, changed timing chain & gears, etc...The right side mount was bad. Here's what my car would do & how to check for: The motor mount is caged in a rubber bushing ~ where the bolt passes through looks like an "I " beam on its side. When the car was first started, everything was fine, as it warmed up, the rubber heated & "Tap, Tap, Tap" started, sounded just like a stuck lifter, or maybe, maybe, a rod knock. Hotter it got, the more it tapped. How I found it ~ Had the car up on 4 jack stands, crawled under & had the girlfriend start & put in gear (automatic). (I know ~ you are not supposed to do this, but I was at my wits end...) The torque then started the tapping. Stuck a screwdriver between the metal/rubber in the motor mount and discovered the source of the tapping.
