LOUD pop while shifting after cam install

I searched on this and mostly found stuff were people were having pops constantly at idel etc,

My problem. Installed a cc306 with stock replacement lifters, hardened pushrods, oem timing set, and cms 612 springs. Idle sounds great, it revs fine and seems to make more power than stock. I am using the factory rockers so I don't expect a freak, but it is pulling well. I have not pulled past @ 5k and know that this cam is really going to pull on up to my redling. (@ 6300)

Sometimes though if I shift @ 4-5k rpm there is a very loud and quick/sharp pop in the exhaust. I have hooker long tubes, ORY and a cutout at the end of the y pipe. With the cutout closed it still pops with my flowmaster. I had a bit of a pop before the cam install but it was less frequent and a must deeper tone and seemed to last a bit longer. My decel does not pop anymore, but if it drops really quick (shifting or pushing the clutch in) in makes this pop.

I have a tune from pcm for less for cc306 and stock heads. I want to get to a dyno but it will be a few weeks. Could a misadjusted rocker do this? We adjusted them running and tightened just past were they stopped chattering.

Re: LOUD pop while shifting after cam install

if you misaligned a rocker arm, you'd hear a ticking or light knocking at idle. noticable from inside the car. also, you'd have to make sure the timing chain you installed was not loose and was installed in the correct position. but if the car runs fine, it might only be a slight backfire. send you pcm back to pcmforless and ask them for a little more fuel if needed. you should hook an autoxray to your car if possible and get the timing and fuel injector information needed. a tool like this would also tell you if you have knock retard or anything of that sort. with a cam as lumpy as the 306, it might not be as easy to tell if you have a miss, but my best suggestion is to leave the car running and parked while you stand about 30 ft away and off to the side. this kind of allows you to get a better sound of the exhaust. You'll be able to tell if something is off pattern somewhat easily.
Basically, do basic timing checks yourself, and get ahold of a scan tool that gives live readings (if possible). try and eliminate all possibilities before you end up having pcmforless give you some more fuel. My stock interaled 94 lt1 has this pop between shifts, although not quite as sharp as you described. i could hear a miss through the exhaust. still drives fine, but sputters at high rpms every other time. opti???loose timing chain??? guess i need a cam swap....

Re: LOUD pop while shifting after cam install

I drove it some more tonight, not as bad through the muffler.

I am going to wait till I can get on the dyno before I change fuel anymore, I would think I am a little rich if it is popping, but don't want to risk running lean if I pull anymore fuel.

Anyone with a similar setup want to share your fuel tables? Specifically the power enrich ones.

Thanks.
