Loud engine squeeke?
Loud engine squeeke?
Well, after about 1500$ in parts for the top end of the motor, i just about got everything all adjusted and ready to drive ..
I started it up, ran fine. Few minutes I moved it outside to let it sit for a few more minutes before a drive. Then you could start hearding a light squeeke from what sounded like the back of the motor. We bring it in, take off the belt, change the oil which has some metal in it from the cam of course. Started it up and the squeeke takes a few seconds but it comes back, and it got loud! So we shut it off, rolled it outside and starting looking for a new shortblock.
What do u guys think? Crank bearing?

ttt
Anybody got anyother ideas on what it is. . its not the typical "knock" you hear. Either way the engine is getting torn down, i was just wondering if anyone has had this before?

Re: Loud engine squeeke?
I thought that its really odd that it won't do it until the motor builds oil pressure. So when you first start it, you don't get even the tinest squeek. It takes like . . almost 5 seconds after you start the motor till it squeeks. And then once you shut it off, you can turn it right back on and it won't do it right away again?
I'm going to change the oil a few times and get all the metal outa it and see if i can figure it out before i start pulling it outa the car. Its really starting to peak my interest .. i can't figure it out .. and NOBODY around here knows what it is, not even the shops know!

Re: Loud engine squeeke?
Gets faster i think, i'm to scared something will happen. Not sure thought, but it gets pretty damn loud! no knock, no ping, GREAT oil pressure! .. I don't get it? 3 pro racers/engine builders are all stumped .. other than it don't sound good.
Well, i gritted my teeth and went again and started it again today. It was still squeaking, so i let it idle a min or two and then rev'd it alittle. The squeak went with the RPMs
After Rev'n the motor a few times and then taking an easy trip around the block in town the squeak is almost gone, but a knock, rattle, and clank have replaced it
. Oil pressure started to get lower on idle, not gone .. but pretty low. . too low. Time to rebuild
O well, found a guy that has a brand new 383 stroker forged scat crank, forged rods and pistons unbalanced. He only wants 600$ for all of it. He's a good friend so i trust him.
Just sucks it had to happen when i'm close to getting the car out for the year!

Re: Loud engine squeeke?
Sometimes compression leaks do that. A loup squeek that goes with the RPMs. Its more a squeel.
Make sure all your plugs are tight/head gasket is down right. Did you remember to torque everything down right?
