Re: Losing my mind. Arcing problem

Arcing on new/quality wires is the result of high voltage. The voltage required to fire the plug is dependent on the gap and the resistance in the electrical circuit. If you have verified the gap is within normal limits on all plugs, then you need to look at the engine grounds. Are they all connected? Are they all making clean connections to bright metal? Are you using spiral wound resistance type wires?

Re: Losing my mind. Arcing problem

ive gone over everything. hell just because ill go over all the grounds again. ill completely remove them. I was using 8.5mm msds and this was a problem so i bought some 8mm taylors but its the exact same thing. from what im understanding thing seems to be a grounding issue but i certainly cant find it. theres only 2 damn ground right?

brand new plugs, gasket type, all gapped to .040

All the grounds in the world won't help you unless you ensure the battery is grounded properly. Look for a problem with the main cable - corrosion, poor connection, etc.

if the battery wasnt grounded properly wouldnt i have starting issues as well? ill check the main cable again. im at that point where i may even replace them just because

Re: Losing my mind. Arcing problem

The battery just starts the car - once it's running all it does is charge back up and sort of act like a giant capacitor and reference for the alternator. I would make sure the coil secondary ground goes to the heads cause that is where the spark voltage is returning through. Maybe just for fun, measure the resistance of some of the wires, especially the coil wire, and measure the plugs from center electrode to SAE terminal just to rule those out. If it's none of that maybe you have a burned out opti. There's only so much it can be.

Re: Losing my mind. Arcing problem

can an opti really cause it to do this? thats what im leaning on. its like all thats left. my grounds seemed to all check out ohms wise. ive verified they are all clean contacts. im like seriously left at the opti left in the system but dont know how that could cause my issue. I also dont know precisely how the opti works and whats inside. I hate buying and replacing but im just wanting to hit myself in the head with my hammer over this one lol

Re: Losing my mind. Arcing problem

You should confirm the plug wires are going to the correct cylinders. I didn't read where you have done that yet.

pulling wires off and ohm'ing them

old msd wire, one ohmd out at 120ohm then next one i check 1.100k ohm.. that dont sound good right? just pulled a taylor off thats on the car. the coil wire itself is at 1.170k ohm. arnt these supposed to be like 50ohm a foot or so for wires???

Re: Losing my mind. Arcing problem

Are you using wires that you cut-and-crimped yourself, or are they pre-made?
