Losing my mind. Arcing problem

Im getting an arcing problem from all wires. I noticed the porcelin on the spark plugs glowing. Then following that got under the car to notice a laser light show. Arcing everywhere to the entire wire flashing bright white. Now ive noticed coil wire and even the coil itself is arcing out. coil is arcing to waterpump and to even the opti vacuum line.

new wires, new plugs, tried 2 coils. im losing my mind. just installed afr heads and a cam. started afterwards. grounds seem fine. i dont even know what to do now im out of ideas. anyone else ever solve this?

Thanks guys

Re: Losing my mind. Arcing problem

have you tried some sort of protecting covering on them?

Re: Losing my mind. Arcing problem

I had an arcing problem because of my headers and I solved it with a new set of wires and a set of heat sleeves. Something like this JEGS Performance Products 40300 JEGS Spark Plug Wire Boot Guards

Re: Losing my mind. Arcing problem

Is the car running poorly? With that much arcing the car should be running terribly.

Honestly though it sounds like you're (mostly) describing the corona discharge and is normal. It is normal to see a blue flash around the insulator.

Re: Losing my mind. Arcing problem

Ramair i replied on LS1tech as well.

For rest of you i really believe its not a wire problem. There is an issue causing them to all jump. Brand new wires with no heat. I have them routed great. Im swapping out my ngk plugs for autolites. If this doesnt do anything ill honestly be out of hope.

i know what a arc is from a burnt wire etc. This is a far different problem. I thought it was wires too. maybe that had all broken down. msd 8.5s i had and now i just swapped to an 8mm taylor. Exact same issue. Wires are eliminated. Swapped coils and icm thats eliminated. Ive checked the grounds that should be eliminated. New ngk tr55s in there. Maybe i got a bad batch i dont know. Bought some autolite 105s swapping them out today.

Re: Losing my mind. Arcing problem

What are you gapping the plugs to? Don't the AFR heads run gasketed plugs?

There's a spark plug guide "stickied" on the "N2O Tech" forum.

Re: Losing my mind. Arcing problem

I think he said he's got Taylor wires on there. I don't have personal experience with them, but there were posts in the past where some members had bad ones out of the box. The only other thing I could possibly think of would be a bad coil high tension wire, wasted opti high tension section (burned rotor) or maybe even a bad engine ground (missing braided ground wires) or some other high resistance path from plug ground to the coil (-). It would be interesting to put a scope on there and see what voltages they are trying to fire at.

Re: Losing my mind. Arcing problem

arc is all still there. i honestly dont know where to go from here. did not have this problem before heads cam intake and tune.

1. msd 8.5 and taylor 8mm both do same thing
2. correct plugs installed brand new gapped .040 same result
3. coil/icm has been swapped between a couple i have and end result still the same
4. grounds checked. starter and strap from driver head to rail all in tact, clean and tight

5. opti not new but a delco unit i havent had issues with
6. tune? no way that can do this right?
7. anyone wanna buy a 95 lt1? lol

Re: Losing my mind. Arcing problem

possible fix. out there checking everything i can i was removing grounds to clean etc. I go to the stud over by the power distribution block and started to loosen it. Sparks flews and the stud broke. Hoping thats my issue. just gonna but a bolt sand up the contact points and pray to god i found the issue. Ill report back
