Losing Coolant/Anti-Freeze - Problem Solved
Losing Coolant/Anti-Freeze - Problem Solved
Okay, this is for the archives.
Symptom #1: Low Coolant warning light would come on about every two weeks. Upon inspecting coolant reservoir, it was always full. When engine was cold, I would open the radiator cap and discover it was low. Filling the radiator would take about 1/2 gallon or more of coolant/water.
Symptom #2: The coolant return line (between reservoir and radiator neck) would occassionally be disconnected from the radiator's neck tube.
Problem Solved: Found the coolant return line was clogged shut with goober/calcium. After removing the battery, the coolant line could be pulled out of the reservoir (1/2 aluminum tube, 1/2 rubber hose) and attempted to clear with a wire/coat hanger. Could not clear it, so I had it sand-blasted clear.
Works like a champ now.
