Looking at a LT1 motor

Might be a pre 96 but don't know yet.
Threw a rod threw the oil pan and missing accessories and the intake.
He said he wants $200 for it (local guy) but I think I can talk him down to 150.
My dad for a while has been saying one day he wants to get a blown Porsche 944 turbo car (has a 924T but since its so rare he likes to keep it near stock), junk the bad motor and throw in a mild LT1. I figure I could but it for 150-200, sell the cam, push rods, water pump, opti, see if anyone would want 7 rods HAHAHA, and make a chunk of my money back and he would have a nice x-mas present or I would have a spare.

You can't use pre 95 heads on a 96 car right or is that the intake?

Think its worth the money?
Could I turn around and sell it for more you think?

If you don't mind spending money on a boat anchor, then go ahead, but I'd think about it. JMHO

Well you can't put an LS1 into a 944 or else he would go that route.

$200 for motor with rod hanging out, little steep. I just bought a caprice LT1 5.7 at the junk yard last week, light engine fire, but a lot of plastic peices still there, turns over, intake, starter, manifolds all for $200.00

if you want to buy it, at least take the oil pan off and make sure it didn't hurt the block.

saying a LS1 'cant' fit just meas it might be hard. I'm sure someone could make just about anything fit in anything else.

If I understand correctly, he has a a 924T and wants to keep it "stock". Well, if you put an Lt1 in it, it is no longer stock and the value, if any, will be greatly diminished. If the motor isn't any good, then rebuild it: then it might be worth something. Did I read your post incorrectly?

Yep, you did.

$200 too much for block with possible hole.

I think he wants to keep the 924 stock, but get another shell (diff porche) for the lt1 swap. Sounds fun to me, those 944 or whatever in the 80s should be cheap.

I think it has to do with the way the mounts are or something. Renegade performance is the people down in AZ that did it and I guess you would have to do a lot of cutting or its something to do with the mounts or something. Who knows I have just heard an LS1 swap is not worth the time or money compared to an LS1.

He has been thinking about doing it in a 944, the 924T is to rare to tear up.

the heads are worth $200 if they are alum. so if the block is junk oh well also all lt1 heads and intakes are adaptable just there is a diffrence in the opti but motor is the same

Re: Looking at a LT1 motor

If it broke a rod then the cranks likely junk, block could be junk so I'd be checking it out first. As said above stock heads sell for $200 but how many guys want stock heads???? I would buy one running if it was me.
