looking for a cam setup

It almost winter again... so its time to start thinking mods . Last winter I did all the suspension work and now this year I'm thinking about throwing in a cam. Basically I need everything that goes along with the cam. Okay, now. you ask what do I want out of this cam ???
>I want a street-able cam, I drive around 5k miles a year
>I want more low end grunt and more pull up high
>emissions are not a problem
>I want a bit more lopey idle than stock.
> my budget is 1000-1500 for parts...i want something that's reliable
>what about the supporting mods like roller rockers? springs? pushrods? timing chain? guide plates? ect ect
>I would like to keep the stock converter for now...
thanks for all the help !

if you want to keep the stock convertor then the lt4 hotcam kit, then some stronger springs, the springs that come with the kit arent strong enough. either that or a cc305 and supporting kit.

I would really do cam, stall, gears all at the same time. You really want to match the 3 to get the best result. Between all 3, with traction you could shave .8-1.3 off your et.

Cams are an excellent example of TINSTAAFL. You cannot get both more at low end and the high end by changing cam specs. One will alwys be at the expense of the other. However, if you combine the right converter with the right cam, you may see improvements at both ends. You can probably re-use your stock pushrods.

Okay, I'm thinking hotcam and with the money I save I'll get a stall and better valve springs. Which brings me to my next question, what are your recommendation on springs and stall ?

I think a stall speed in the 3,000rpm range would suit the hotcam pretty well. Get the kit, less than $600 for the cam, matching springs, retainers, aluminum 1.6:1 rockers.

First off, you're in PA

There's not enough straight road to wind out a huge cam.

Hotcam will kick a$$

i would skip the hotcam, and buy the lingenfelter 219/219. it is, IMO, amuch better cam, but than you have to source out the rest of the parts. Otherwise the hotcam is still a good kit.

Xtreme Energy™ 276HR-12
Comp Cams part number 07-503-8
224/230 112
new springs
new lifters

This is the cam I am running in my 94 stock intake and stock heads set up. I have not dyno tested it yet but I do have a desktop dyno and it read the strongest for a stock head stock intake setup.

I am not criticizing your cam choice. But using DD to pick a cam is not what I would recommend.

Start looking at the HOTCAM, CCC305, GM846, and the XE503. Do a bunch of searches to see how folks liked them, hear what they sound like, and what they used for a supporting mods.
