looking to build a 383 stroker

I have a lt1 with almost 148XXX on it.. 1st would that be too many miles to get a stroker put it.. then what is a good kit to buy.. what other things will be needed/ need to be replaced.. can i keep my stock heads? and how much does it run to replace the bottom end.

Thanks,

miles are irrelevent...when you build a stroker you are rebuilding the entire shortblock

depends on your power goals and how the car will be used
There are many different stroker kits and pre-built short blocks on the market

you will need:
CAI
TB
Injectors
Fuel Pump
Cam
Lifters
Pushrods
Valve Springs
Ported Heads
Ported Intake

There is no need to build the bottom of the motor if the top will not support it

You can but why would you want to?
Its like trying to drink a milkshake with a coffee stirrer..

$4-7000 or more

Re: looking to build a 383 stroker

chopstix pretty much laid it all out for you.

You haven't posted what you wish to get out of the car or your goals, can't really help ya w/o knowing that and your budget.

People throw around the term "stroker" a little too much...

Re: looking to build a 383 stroker

sorry.. my goal is to hit around 400hp.. and now that im thinking about it mabye putting a 383 might now be away to reach that goal. If you know anyway to get that much hp i have a budget around 3 grand. The car all ready has Cai and im looking to get the exhaust done (but can you get a good exhaust that will pass emissions, a couple days ago i just passed the car with a major leak after the cat.) so right now my questions are... make 400hp and whats a good exhaust system(i have to do everything cuz of small leaks)

(also how many miles can a bottom end take/ should take.. and what would be the cost on rebuilding the bottom end of a lt1)

Thanks again,

400 hp at the crank or the wheels...

400hp at the wheels with a $3k budget and only a cold air kit for mods ain't gonna happen unless your spray it IMO.

Re: looking to build a 383 stroker

Javier is right.....you'd be skimping on some very important items to build a 383 bottom end for less than 3K, nevermind all the other stuff that would be needed (heads, cam, accessories, tuning, etc.). If you really want to hit 400rwhp without nitrous, blowers, or turbos, take that 3 grand you have and either invest it or save it until you have 6 or 7 more to put with it....do some searches on here and you'll find the average build cost for what you're talking about is 8 - 10 grand and can easily go well above that.
As for exhaust systems, I recommend you just find a muffler you like the sound of (tons of sound clips on here) and have a good exhaust shop fab up the rest for you. If you plan to include headers as part of your exhaust upgrade, I would recommend Mac mid-lengths if you need to pass emissions or Pacesetter long-tubes if you don't.
Hope this helps....

Re: looking to build a 383 stroker

I just built a 383 bored and stroked for 1799.99 eagle rotating assembly from summit part #ESP-16102030 the machine work is up to who ever you bring it to I would guess probably 500 - 1000 for machine work also you can check out www.tpis.com will have all the up grades that you will need (fuel pump, injectors, throttle body...etc) also I went with a set of trick flow heads from summit part #TFS-30400010 for approx 1300.00 these are a low cc volume at 62 cc and I will get about 8.5-1 to 9.1 (because I am going with a turbo system) with a mild cam from comp cams you should be pushing out approx 400rwhp

Those do seem like good prices. This top sportsman package intrigues me. I like those pistons, but I don't know anything about the King Perf bearings, though. Does anybody who is knowledgeable about internals (I'm not yet) think this is a good package? It costs about the same as my 'separate parts' list, which didn't include a crank. (I removed the price from the details below because I seem to remember that it's not cool to advertise for non sponsors, so I hope the details are ok to include! If not I'm very sorry, tell me and I won't do it again.)
