Looking for an alternator relocation kit....

I am looking for an alternator relocation kit.

Now, I have seen a couple that are for cars that have yanked both the A/C AND the Power Steering pump, such as the brackets Madman offers.

With my heavy and wide front rims/tires, there is no way in hell I am giving up my power steering. But I want to yank the A/C, and I'd love to get rid of that bulky factory bracket and move the alternator down and out of way.

So does anyone make any sort of kit for this?? If so, please point me to somewhere. I don't want to hear the "buy a 1LE pulley" since I know this, but that's not what I want to do. I will if there is no other option, but I'd really rather move the alternator.

My bracket is meant to be used without the power steering pump and AC.

I have been looking into designing a bracket for the folks whom want to keep power steering but loose AC, but I have not been able to get the time to do it as of yet.

Hope you figure out what you need. The alternator slung down below really opens up alot more options for modifying your car.

Steve,

If you could make up a new bracket that allows for the PS pump, I'm sure there is quite the market for it. A lot of people pull the A/C, but can't loose that PS pump, so they just go with the 1LE Pulley. If they could do the same thing but re-locate that alternator instead, I'm sure you would have a lot of interested buyers!

This would also allow anyone to run standard SBC Centerbolt valve covers without having to bang in an alternator notch.......

streetbad: That's another interesting option. Looks like they toss the PS pump on the passenger side of the motor. I guess that's another option too, since I don't have much in that area.

I will see what I can come up with . It will take me about 1 month to get it finished since right now, i've been working on a few projects that need to get finished. I hope your not in a hurry at this time.

I have my power steering pump off my car so I will have to mock it up with the lines to be sure it will be ok. The only thing that would be of concern to me is that I get it positioned so that the stock pump lines still work without modifications. Since my are off and i'm running a manual rack, I may need a donor car to be certain the setup is correct.

Steve, that sounds great. Yanking the A/C is going to be a winter project for me, so I have some time for sure!

Looking at the stock bracket, what about firing up the saw and mig/tig...
cut the a/c and alternator mounts off the bracket, and reweld the alternator mount down low.. still keeping the stock tensioner. Buy a shorter belt, and viola! Low mount alternator, clearance for tall covers, and cheap.

Thumbs up

stever10 if and when you do build one. Consider me your 1st buyer! Been wanting one for the longest keeping the PS and deleting the rest which I've already done. I'll be out of the loop for the next 6 months but I'll keep my eye out for any updates.

Silas,

Good suggestion, only problem I could see is the stock bracket is actually pretty heavy, not to mention with the tensioner. It may work but it probably just easier to deal with when starting from scratch and removing as many pieces as possible.

I will be looking into this very shortly for everyone. I will post my results shorlty. For someone whom lives close enough to pittsburgh, they may be a possible tester for the new piece. I will copy everyones info down and email everyone when I complete the piece.

Steve, I would be all over one as well I am in the same boat as Joe....I have ditched the AC, but I need/want PS.

Setting lash on the passengers side sucks for my car since I gotta pull the alt/belt all the time.

Definatly count me in.

Thanks, Jason
