Longtube install, driver's side problem
Boom...I just installed pacesetter LT's both went in from the top mainly because I dont have another person to help me so having the car high would make it real difficult to hold the header in place. I had the car jacked maby 6 inches, just enough for me to get under it. Then I would use a few pieces of wood under the collector to hold it up while I bolted it in.
I am in the middle of a head gasket swap so I already had most of the stuff off on the pasengers side. But I assume you need to take the starter and oil dipstick off. I have brutal disregard for the paint on my headers so I will be painting them anyways, mine got a little jamed up on heatercore, couple wakes w/ a hammer + board and it popped right in there.
Drivers side all I had to do was remove the steering shaft and it plopped right in. Take into mind I already have the valve covers off.
Took me probably about 2 hours to install them....What are people bitching about all the time?
Then again I had a brutal disregard for me paint...maby thats why I dont know.

There's no way I'd use a hammer on my coated Kooks...I've done header installs on a broad range of vehicles, so it comes to me pretty easy. For first timers I can see where it's a PITA, especially if the person hasn't done their homework. Aslong as you remove the necessary parts out of your way, it's easier than Paris Hilton drunk on prom night.

I have literally know idea how it just dropped in driver's side for you...
valve covers off and the last primary gets hung on the rocker arms in the rear, so I pulled those off and it dropped a little more, then it was inside the lip of the head. jacking the motor looks to be the only plausible way for me to get it done.

If you are haveing issues with the install, you either have a weak motor mount & the engine is sagging some, or the car is not up on all 4s, i guess if you need to lift the engine, then thats what you need to do, i can't speak for ANY other LT header, just the Pacesetter LTs, my engine mounts were replaced at one time, so this may be why my install went smooth, i have slept sense then lol, so i can't say it was a FLAWLESS install, but i do remember i was surprized how easy they went in, if you think these headers are a bear, try installing some on SB & BB/ A & B body mopars, talk about a BITCH to say it mildly, but i've done quite a few of them, so these are a breeeeeeze.

Now if you can have a friend take a large pry bar & lift the engine some without messing with the mount, i'll bet it'll go up in place, once its past that point (on the drivers side) it won't fall back on the ground, that much i do remember because i had NO help, just me, the pass side i had to set it off to the side so it wouldn't fall back down, when i went up top, it was right there at the bolt holes damn near.
I just noticed your in Benton Arkansas, i'm in Branson, Mo. were almost neighbors, if gas wasn't so friggin high, i would head down & give you a hand. Sorry, just looked at the map, i was thinking Bentonville, thats only an hour or so away, you are south of Little Rock, just a tad bit too far.

Well with 136k on the motor, I'm sure the motor mounts are sagging... so I guess that's the problem.
Without undoing the mount, what would be the best place to jack the motor to get it to tilt up a little bit? If I have to pull the bolt out of the mount, I will, but I'll try it without it first. I put a 2x4 on the bottom of the harmonic balancer, but it's hard to get a good steady grip on it because the sway bar is right there... plus when I went to jack it up, it began to crush the wood and raise the car. I might try to pry the engine out of the way, I suppose I could just get leverage from under the block or something to get it out of the way?

I would suggest at this point to take the bolt out of the mount & lift it, Now would be a good time to install new mounts, i lift my engines from the pan rail with a block of 2x4, you won't need much lift, 1.5"/ 2" will give those headers alot more room to slide in.
His engine must be sagging from a weak mount, this would be the only explanation for his problems, i can believe that it fall in from the top with the VC/rockers off, i was going to take that route, but didn't want to be messing with the VC/rockers, so i went from the bottom.

Yeah, that's how I had to do it... got all 3 bolts out from the top, got 2 back in from the top, just need to get the last one back in (header is now in and bolted up). Just have to get 2 more header bolts in and put plugs and wires back in, and get it all put back together. I'm so relieved.
