Talking long tube headers

I am looking to get some headers and am leaning towards lts. Is it worth the extra power to money ratio over short tubes? Just looking for peoples opinions. is the install tricky? brands suggested? Thank you for the input

Re: long tube headers

from what i have read, and after talking with several people, if u do not have strict emission laws, then go for the LT's. i have short tubes and have no complaints but for the little bit of extra money it would cost, you could go with longtubes. had my car not came with exhaust already when i bought it i would have went longtubes, but since the shorties were on it i wont mess with it

Re: long tube headers

Long tubes are for sure worth every penny. It makes it sound like an old school muscle car. They are worth it for the sound alone. And yes they are worth it over shorties. They make better power on a stock engine. And have significant gains on modified ones.

Re: long tube headers

i have mods in sig, and all im gonna say is... on the highway from about 70-110(never really tried to get it much higher) it pulls insanely with the headers. just screams and climbs past 100 so easily. ive never had shorties on a car but from what i hear its not worth it if you can get away with long tubes.

Re: long tube headers

My car, with just CAI, long tubes, ORY and Flowmaster cat back, sticks with LS1 F-Bodies ...

My friends LT4 Grand Sport with a cat back and JET chip though would put a solid 3 lengths on it through 1,2,&3rd gear. That thing is awesome.

Hope that gives you an idea of where you should be with those mods.

Re: long tube headers

I just put the Hooker LT's on my car and I love them. Emissions was not a problem for me so that made it very nice. It sounds great with the Hooker Cat back.

Re: long tube headers

The big question is emissions. If you have them, then shorties or mids would probably be your best bet.

Re: long tube headers

yep, if you have an OBDII car(1996 or newer) you can get it tuned and it will pass as long as there is no visual, or there are other ways to get around it, but depends on your situation.

and like HardcoreRM125 said, it will give LS1's a run for their money. heres a vid of my car against an automatic LS1 T/A with full exhaust, except for headers...

Re: long tube headers

z28-06, I live in Minnesota as well. No problems with the long tubes, I have had mine on for two years now. Love them. As a few others mentioned I have no problem hanging with LS1 f-bodies. I run up at Brainard on the road course, and my buddy runs a 99 SS with a 6 speed and I was able to pull a couple of car lengths on him down the front straight. I was even pulling slightly on stock LS1 vettes. I have TPIS LT's, custom ORY, Flowmaster catback and a tune. It is a tad loud but not bad.
