Re: long tube headers

Or ...

Save your $$$ and get PaceSetters ... You will be happy when the extra money you saved buys you a tune, RR's, and Springs L's & R's ... Maybe even enough to get a set of beehives or something. Kooks are scary expensive. I take it you are very content with yours though ? lol

Re: long tube headers

Hardcore, yes I'm very satisfied with the fit/finish/plug access/ground clearance and install of the Kooks and the Y-pipe. These are by far the best headers I've ever seen for our cars. I also went with the stepped headers because they should work very well with my combo. But they do come with a price. I wanted to go with what I feel is the best, and after a year of research I went with them. I dropped .2 and gained 2 mph on the dyno 1/4 mile run with them over my LPE big tube shorties...We'll see what the real track says in a few weeks...

Re: long tube headers

I would suggest going with shorties or mids, i heard long tubes are not the best choice when emissions are a problem.

Re: long tube headers

Technically, when you move the original position of the cat converter you are not legal in some states which require that the converter remain in the stock location. With LTs its virtually impossible to keep the cat(s) in the stock location. You can make big gains with good shorties and remain legal. The times in my sig were with shorties and all emissions equipment AIR tubes etc hooked up. I had 2 Y pipes also. One with a gutted cat and one with a cat, but visually they looked the same...

NOOOOOOOOOO dont waste your money on pacesetter mids(shorties)...get ANY other brand...i have them and they MUST be removed in order to get to your spark plugs...and this is coming from someone thats done plugs on a stock lt1 in an hour and both plugs AND wires on an edelbrock TES-equipped lt1 also in an hour

Re: long tube headers

so would it be a better idea to go with shorties? I would go with long tubes but I have bullet mufflers and live in CA, that would be too much bad attention

Re: long tube headers

yeah well for me the emissions are a huge problem!!! bc not only is NJ strict with emissions they also have the mirror that they run under the car to make sure the cats are in the correct location...so what set-up do u suggest i go with as far as headers/cats/ypipe...bc i am definitely gettin the SLP Loudmouth as my cat-back system

Re: long tube headers

93 Trans Am...I have no idea what the gains are because the tuner was not at the shop with the tuning software to keep the car from downshifting which stopped the test...The next best thing was the 1/4 mile run which historically reads 2 mph slow...It went a 10.98 at 118 with a 1.35 60'...It went an 11.23 at 116 with the addition of an EWP and picked up 9-10 rwhp across the rpm range. I usually 60' at 1.55...A perfect real track run could give me an 11.18 at 120. I would say that there are gains, but only the track will tell for sure...
