Re: Long tube header poll

I like Kooks. I have a coated set I'll be putting on soon.

I can't see much of a difference in HP between the ones in the poll. Vote with you wallet then.

Pacesetters here. You can't beat 379 shipped for COATED long tubes.

Re: Long tube header poll

i have jet hots currently on mine and i got them used so really pricing wasnt a issue but as most would say if we would ever do it again it would be kooks.

a buddy of mine is going to be putting on a set of pacesetters this winter so once i get to help him out and see what the difference are between the two then i can vouch for either one.

Re: Long tube header poll

People seem to have problems with the coating on all three of the brands you listed: Pacesetter, Jet-Hots, and Hookers. As for fitment, my Pacesetters fit pretty well, there were some issues with the EGR fitting on the header hitting the tranny dipstick. I had to take the header out and heat up the fitting and bend it a good inch in the direction of the firewall. If you want the best quality, stick with the Kooks.

Re: Long tube header poll

Hooker's fit nice. I wasn't to pleased with the coating. I have only had them on for this warm weather season and they are already showing signs of rust. I wouldn't reccomend the hooker y-pipe because the fit wasn't too great. Other companies sell y-pipes to fit hooker headers and they would probably work better.

Also, the only plugs that give me trouble are the 6 & 8 plugs. To remove those I unbol my dipstick from the header flange (flexible dipstick) and then I can get to them. Be forewarned that the directions really stink and you will have to make modifications that aren't stated in the directions.

Re: Long tube header poll

I had Hookers for a while but recently made some changes in the car including replacing the Hookers with Kooks. The Kooks are more expensive, but have much better ground clearance and better plug access. Worth the money in my opinion. If any of you are considering Kooks anytime soon, I have two Kooks Y-pipes (one with cats and one without) in the "for sale" forum. I upgraded to a 4" exhaust and these are 3".

i went with hookers, the fit well but as always it was a pita. i loved reving the car after i put them on and ran open headers for a couple of hours before i got the exhaust fabbed up. But the stock wire routing is terrible with them, ever if the wires are not touching the get burned and i bought a taylor otvc kit

Have you had any issues with the coating?

Hey ya'll What about the TPIS long tubes, I havent installed mine yet, they look good, one although was scratched a bit passenger side, (thats why they cost $100 less than book price!) I am seriously worried about clearance issues with the TPIS-Y pipe with my lowered car. they claim good clearance.???
I'll find out in about a month.

I guess that makes alot of sense then as I have not heard any complaints lately in regards to their coating. I bought these headers about three years ago and the coating started to rust in less then a years time. This is on a car that doesn't see rain or snow.

yeah i am really hoping that is the case and he did not just tell me that to get me to buy them. but like i said so far so good, and like i said they fit great and do not leak at all, i did however use the arp 12pt 1inch bolts rather than the ones that came in the package and i would highly recomend anyone who purchases them do the same

I've been using the bolts that they supplied, they have worked fine for me since day one. I run over them with a wrench every so often to make sure they are snug and they have never loosened at all. I pitched those crappy paper gaskets they supplied though, although I heard they are supplying copper ones now?

If the original poster didn't make a hasty decision, I think he should get some Kooks and be done with it. There are also some new stainless headers coming to market for the LT1. There is a big discussion thread on LS1Tech.
