Lokar Dipstick Install problems

I got the lokar dipstick part number ED-5001 and am having a problem install it. Mine just loosely fits into the block and it doesn't register an oil on it at all. There are 5 qts of oil in it for sure (just put them in to prime the engine) and no matter how I put the dipstick into the block it never registers oil. What am I doing wrong?

First thought that comes to mind is your oil pan. You mention priming the motor, indicating a fresh build....are you using an aftermarket oil pan? If so, those are typically higher capacity than stock (6-7 quarts) and the 5 quarts you put in probably are not enough to register on the stick.

If you're running a stock oil pan, check to see if the end of the dipstick is intact...I tried a Lokar with my header install and my crankshaft bit an inch or so off the end the first time I fired it up. Had to go back to a stock dipstick...PITA to route around the headers but no other problems.
