Little smoke on first take-off

One of my friends told me a while back then I noticed yesterday that my car puffs out the whitish maybe a little blue smoke at first when you take off. From what I notice it only does it after being first started up. Also the oil has never appeared low. Anyone know what causes this? Thanks!

Well, what are the miles on the lt1?

My first guess is valve seals, mine did it. When i tore the engine down, they were in dire need of replacement. i wouldnt worry too much about it. But they arent that hard to replace if you absolutely wanna get rid of the puff o blue

Miles are around 137,000!! So you are probably right.

yup..I would diagnose it as that...wont cause any HORRIBLE probs. it might ...MIGHt..foul a plug or something like that..bt even that is far-fetched.
Dont worry about it.

Thanks for the reassurance! I plan on getting into the motor for a cam upgrade and heads and all that but that might not happen for another year. But other than the smoke I am very happy with the way the car runs and shifts.

Ive done it three times on three diff cars. Two imports and one Ford. Yep thats exactly what it looks like. Everytime you come to a stop light and idle.. it will smoke blue once you take off... thats when it first starts.. you will need a buddy behind you to let you know.. its just a small puff. it gets worse from there on.

It may reach a point where it wont pass emissions anymore.. thats like a year later. You dont have emissions in LA do you?

It has to be blue smoke though.. if its white you have a diff problem.
