little carried away with homemade short stick...

so i was bored the other day so i went out and picked up a threaded rod. not the stock threads, just, threads. my stock **** is in atrocious condition so i thought, eh what the hell might as well see how it works out. drilled the holes, used my friends (02 ws6) LS1speed.com short stick to gauge, cut it about an inch shorter, worked out not too bad, considering i've got a stock truck shifter errrr stock shifter my friend was impressed too and asked me to make him one, so i obliged i just told him to get a ****. he drilled out an 8-ball and slapped it on. i laughed when i saw how short he wanted it, but i was curious so i cut it, he put the 8 ball on, and i gotta say the stock hurst in that car feels 100x better now. in all honesty, picture about HALF the length of comparibly (spelling?) the lou's short stick or the like... keep in mind the 8 ball doesn't thread down much onto the stick. here's a few pics which give new meaning to the phrase short stick...

surprisingly i drove it, and it shifts quite awesome. i'll be actually doing the same soon (non-threaded rod, getting the M16x1.5 threads and doing it right with a hurst **** or MBA ball )and that's how we solve boredom in our town

I think it looks pretty stupid in my opinion. Also the base is what really sucks on our cars. The handle isn't that big of a deal. The handle just provides look. The poor shifting qualities come from the base.

opinion is alright, and yes i understand about "shorter" shifts coming from the base and shorter throws from the stick. i told him that, and he's not touching the fulcrum point, and if anything it'd be HARDER to shift, as he'd have less leverage. he didn't care so i cut it and that was that. logical? most certainly not, but it's not my car so i dont mind. i'm having mine taller anyhow because i prefer the feel of the hurst **** to the ball (more comfortable to shift IMO), and i'm picking up a used hurst for incredibly cheap for the time being (too many 5.0s sold before i could get 'em and i need a fuel pump). your opinion is appreciated tho.

Wow

I agree that the base is some of the cause of shifting problems, while the other part is the rubber "damper" on the stock rod.

I have a LSS on my Pro 5.0 and with my MBA shift ball, it is too short. It also hits the console soI swapped it out with the Pro 5.0 shift handle that I cut down to where I wanted it.

I run a cut-down Pro 5.0 W/MBA Billet ****... I think I have like 1-1.5" cut off and it defenetly short enough; such that I can JUST get my fingers around the **** and between the concole when I'm in 2/4/6.

LMFAO. Hey, as long as he likes it that's all that matters. I'm using a Pro 5.0 with an inch cut off the stick and the Hurst ball. It's the perfect length for me, and the Hurst ball with the 6-speed H-pattern on it looks awesome.

I'm going to make my own shifter here pretty soon. I have the stock 94 camaro shfiter and i'm making an arm to accept a M12 threaded **** instead of a M16 like the factory. I like the look of the new Cobra shift ***** and i have a couple of them on the way to my house. Not sure how short to make it but i'll have to see what looks best with the 69 camaro console.
