Lingenfelter Intake Air Filter? W\ Pics

OK I open Lingenfelter CAI intake and find this !!

[IMG][/IMG]

And this !

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

And where is the filter?

What's missing from the filter piece for this intake? That last intake pic is the hose going through the sheetmetal

with nothing below! Now I know some draggers like to take their filters off at the track but what the heck was

the previous owner thinking!

Do you think Seafoam is called for or similar?

Any thoughts are always welcome. And here is current pic of the 95'

BTW I swear I didn't think so many people loved Camaros I get at least one person stopping evey time I go anywhere I think it's the Black torq thrusts but maybe it's the red.....

I just cleaned out a very thick layer of grease with a lot of dirt from the throttle body all the way to cutout to the ground lot of black grease everywhere in front of the engine but the intake had hard grease dirt in it. Also isn't there a known oil leak issue in the front of the manifold?

possibly? I mean im not an expert by any means im just tossing ideas out there. if theres dirt in there, that's probably coming from the air since you didn't have a filter correct? I just assume grease has to be coming from the engine to form in there, maybe pull the whole throttle body and look around? see if you can find a culprit. like I said, just tossing idea's, im far from an expert

Yes you are correct the grease is from the oil it's just lot of dirt that shouldn't be in there is unfortunately. That's why I asked about the seafoam as it's that I think or pull the intake to clean it out. I took this opportunity though to pull the AIR system (rather easy thanks for tutorials but somebody got the all 95s are m22 drain plugs wrong as mine is m18 and now I have to source those) in 15min or so. all the lubricating systems in this car have been a messy affair I guess the former wasn't big lube guy. And hey with the AIR out of the way those spark plug wires look a lot easier.

So to Seafoam or not to Seafoam that is the question?

Oh I thought head that about using vacuum the last time I used it was on a

carb car and I just dumped into the primaries. Well I have the whole intake out

so I am going to clean it up tonight. Also tomorrow change my ignition parts and

when it all comes back together hopefully no issues arise lol. Considering the

crap oil and filthy intake this LT1 was running pretty damn good. I think I used

91% alchohol bath on my previous MAF cars without issue. (I am ahem thrifty)

Check the line from the throttle body to the passenger side valve cover for oil buildup. Also take the top cover off the throttle body and look for evidence of oil pooling in that chamber. If there is oil present, check the PCV valve on the driver's side of the intake manifold, and make sure it is clean and working, and that the vacuum source is hooked up and not leaking.

The purpose of the line from the TB to the valve cover is to supply filtered, MAF measured air to the PCV system. If the PCV valve is plugged, or there is excessive piston ring blowby, you get backflow in the line, and the entrained oil droplets end up in the throttle body and the intake manifold. Mix the oil with all the dirt in an unfiltered intake duct, and you get the results you are seeing.
