Lifter Install Question

Im at the final stages of the cam swap now and I have another question. Im about to put the intake back on but first I have to get the lifters in. Now a buddy of mine told me that I need to put the lifters in the holes that they came out of. Is this true because if so I may be screwed. Is there a way of identifying which lifter goes in which hole. Also the roller part faces the cam right because for some reason I cant get it to go in that way. Thanks for all your help guys.

tipically if you still had your stock cam you would want the lifters back where they came from because of their wear pattern, but you have a new cam anyway so it dosn't matter at all

You have a roller cam and roller lifters, it doesn't matter. Make sure you soak them in oil for a while before reinstalling them. I even put about 2 qts of oil in the valley right before I put the intake on as well.

ok thanks guys I appreciate it. Does it matter what direction the oil holes are facing?

That's been asked a lot lately. The answer is still no.

And, yes, the roller faces the cam.

Isn't this a myth....I've been told it is not necessary to do this....even my LT1/LT4 rebuild book does not state to do this....

Now, they do say to lube the bores and lifter thoroughly, but not to soak them for a while.

Thanks guys I was able to have the intake on before I had to go to work today. All I gotta do now is set up the valve train and crank this mother up.

Soaking them accomplishes the same thing as lubeing them throughly. You want to get the air out and the oil in. It sort of reminds me of the reason you put oil in a oil filter before you install it on the block. Less time passes for oil pressure to build and for oil to do its job.
