Ok, on the passenger side of the car, bolted directly onto the frame rail at the front, on the bottom of it, right by where the horns are mounted at, there is this circular tube that has to male fittings on it. What is it? I think it has something to do with vaccum lines or something but I really don't know. Also, on my car there is only one line connected to one of the male fitting while the other is just left open. Should this be like this? I looked around for another hose to put on it, but I couldn't find one anywhere that looked "out of place". If there is another line that supposed to be hooked up, where does it go so I can see if its still on the car or what happened to it. MY car is currently wrecked up there so it could have been ripped off when I put it in the ditch.

Thanks.

Vacuum cannister. Stores vacuum that can be used under conditions of "low vacuum". Mine is unhooked because the line just rotted away with no ill effects - I run a cam and have never had a vacuum related part not work.

I think shoebox has cataloged every nut bolt and carpet fiber on these cars. Either that or he has one hell of a memory.

BTW

The cannister connects to this guy http://csce.uark.edu/~jgbertr/rb/vac_check_valve.jpg

so either take it out and connect the manifold vacuum source to the firewall connection or plug the one port so that your ac and heater controls will work right.

Ok, everything is exactly the way is supposed to be according to the pic. i then traced the line to the front of the car into the wiring harness and out by the horn connectors and everything so that line is fine. But thats the only line up there but theres 2 ports. Should I just plug one up or is there another line thats supposed to be there?

Btw thanks for all your help.

There are two ports on there, but I think only one might be open. Maybe this pic would help? (from my Tech Page, of course )

Yeah, the port that goes to the vacuum line (the lower one). The other thing that looks like a port is not used and is closed off. The tank is probably used on multiple cars and only the ports needed are opened up.

Ok thank you!

Hopefully closing off this extra open port will cause my high idle to go back down from 1200 to around 1000 or so.
