Lean condition after header install, is it bad?

Hey all, posting for a friend. Has a 96 Formula WS6. He has an LT4 hot cam kit, slp loudmouth, and a few other mods. This past week he installed JetHot Longtubes, he also replaced his plugs while he was at it. He also had a custom Y installed with 2 high flow cats as well as o2 sims after the cats. He was told by a speed shop that he was running lean. He wanted to know if this is bad and if he should be driving the car, he doesnt have the budget for tuning atm, he has to drive the car, what would be the best practice of what not to do with a lean running car that you HAVE to drive?

Note: He has not gotten tuning for the lt4 hot cam kit, OR the headers.

Id say take it especially easy on the car, does he know how rich it was ? that would help ... Also, tell him to borrow some money to get it tuned for the mods inless he wants to be borrowing for a melted piston lol ...

Thanks for posting this for me nick...

He's talking about my car. I wasnt told by a speed shop about the lean condition. I have an Air/Fuel guage in my car and it reads a lot leaner now after the headers are in, esp when the car is cold.

My other friend just had headers installed in his ls1 and had it tuned right after. He was running lean but put more power down. Ths shop tuned his car so it wasnt lean, and left it with lesser power then in the lean condition.

Will i become dangerously lean after the headers and cam without tuning? I didnt think the hotcam with longtubes DEFINETLY NEEDED tuning.

You probly dont "have" to get it tuned, but i think if it was my car I'd be saving the $$$ to get a tune with it running lean now. All i was saying is do you really wanna take a chance at grenading the engine cause you didnt wanna get it tuned ...

whats your Air/Fuel ratio numbers?
how lean are you, if you are in the 15's - 16's I'd be worried.
Where are your running lean at? At idle? at WOT? Does it richen up as you lay down on the gas and climb towards the red line? Just curious.

I'd say put it on a wide band 02 and see where it is and go for there.
