Question 96 LT1 will not start on hot days.

I had my engine rebuilt at the end of last year because I blew the heads out. And on several occasions after driving during a hot day, I turn the car off and it will not restart. The car will turn on for a few seconds but I can't get any gas to the engine. After the car cools down it start up and run without problems. I've taken in to have the mechanic run a diag but they find nothing. Have anyone had this problem?? Since I had the engine rebuilt I installed a performance K&N airflow kit. Could this be part of the problem?? If so what can I do fix this and start enjoy the feeling of driving my Z again without any issues.

Thanks,

If you're sure its a fuel problem then you should swap out the fuel pump. Verify this by attaching a fuel pressure guage to the schraeder valve. If the fuel psi comes up slowly then its your pump.

Otherwise it could also be your coil.

Maybe a fuel Line is clogged. It could cause your fuel pump to overheat itself and shutoff.

Cool

I though of heat soak right away; but, the car cranks, starts then dies when it is hot is what I gather from your post?

Things to look at:

air filter dirty

bad engine ground somewhere

fuel not reaching injectors

loose ignition system connection

Good luck

if you try to turn it on again immediately, the starter could be too hot and require too much energy to crank.
