Leaky intake

I have a leak at the back of the intake, dripping just enough to **** me off with the drop here and there on the driveway.
Someone told me that if I clean up the back of hte intake real good with brake clean and then spread a bunch of silicon back there it will fix the leak for about 6 months.

Would that really work? I mean I wouldnt mind doing that every 6 months to keep from pulling everything off.

Re: Leaky intake

My friend tried that on his differential cover and it lasted for about 6 days. I would say give it a try because it's at least easier than pulling off the intake. But if it dosnet work dont be surprised

Re: Leaky intake

The intake manifold leak is a very common problem. The only way to fix it is to pull the intake and correctly apply new gaskets to the heads, and the RTV that seals the back and front edges of the intake to the block. Even doing that, a lot of people manage to screw it up by getting sloppy. So the chances of being able to fix it by spreading some silicon back there are somewhere between slim and none.

There are several good online guides that show you how to do the fix correctly.

Re: Leaky intake

Just replace it, take everything off the intake manifold take out the bolts. Clean it up real well and put on the gaskets and seal the non gasketed part. The reason it is leaking is because the EGR valve dumps scalding exhaust into the rear of the manifold eventually causing the gasket to crumble.

Don't ghetto rig your car. Thats almost as bad as the fuse I found wrapped with copper.

Re: Leaky intake

Please check this excellent link about how to fix the oil leak (the best and permanentely way to get rid of it)

The Permatex copper silicone can be found in Autozone, is the best to use in this application. I applied it to my car's engine 5 years ago, I guess...no leaks yet.

Take care

Ohhhh, the tricks here are: clean the mate surfaces very very well and let the silicon to cure 24 hrs straight, that means, do not start the engine !!!

Re: Leaky intake

Thanks for the link

Seems programming out the EGR and removing it from the car would do nothing but help aswell.
