LE heads/cam ET, first time out!

Well I sold my Trickflow heads awhile back and went with Lloyds LE3 (stock castings) heads/cam setup. I also installed a Moser 12bolt, BMR torquearm (factory style adjustable) and a different converter. So I dynoed the car Thursday on a stingy Mustang dyno, ended up with 390rwhp so I went out Friday nite to do some testing. The car is 3,450lbs, on 325/50/15 drag radials and had been parked for the last 6mos. so here is how it went. First pass was off the footbrake and I hit the rev limiter on the 1-2 shift:
1.50 60'
7.13@97mph
11.20@120mph
Second pass I left on the T-brake and the car hooked greta but I hit the limiter again and short shifted 2-3.
1.48 60'
7.10@96.8mph
11.12@120mph
Last pass I put a 6,400 pill in the shift lite and let the car cool for awhile.
1.49 60' spun a little
7.02@97.6mph
11.009@121.8mph
I want to say thanks to Lloyd Elliott and Brett Bauer for hooking me up with an awesome heads/cam package that will run mid 10's once I get the converter swapped out and the tune a little closer. It felt awesome leaving with a 1.4 60' on motor and both front wheels in the air. Later Clint

Sounds like a good run. Must have felt great after 6 months out of the seat.

Very nice, any chance you could get some pics of the wheels up, or a vid next time? Are you going to make some or or all of the changes before the next time out? I know this stuff takes time. Once again, nice results for the first try on a new set-up.

It did feel great! I am swapping the converter this week b/c the converter that is in my car is borrowed and my Precision Industries converter is on the floorboard of my truck. My friend who was supposed to video got to the track late, missed the first two passes, only got one pass and just so happened to be the pass when I tried leaving on the wood off the T-brake and the car shook the tires violently (had to get out of it completely) but still managed 1.68 60' 11.60@120mph. Then a nice vette crashed at 10:30PM so alot of people left thinking the track would close b/c it would be late before the cleanup so I will have video next time. Later

Thats movin as it is, much less with a better tune and different converter. What converter do you have and what are you swaping for??
Also what cam still CC306 or LE3/LE4 cam. From what I have seen the LE3stock castings move some air.
How do you like the 325/50/15 combo on the radial??? Can't decide on those or the Et Streets?

Looked at sig for the cam and converter, lol.

The converter that is in the car now is one that I borrowed from my brother, thinking it would be close (4,500 TCI) but it's way too loose and I am putting my Precision Industries 3,800 back in tommorow. The cam is an LE4 solid roller and makes some awesome torque. The M/T drag radials are great and much more streetable than ET streets. I am sure with my converter in the car and a good track that I will be able to pull low 1.4 60's on the Drag radials on motor and 1.3 60's on the n2o. Later

I have been leaning toward the Drag radials, since my car will be mostly a street car, I think the results between the 2 tires would be roughly the same from what I have seen people do with them.

Damn man those are some great times. Inspiration even more for me to do my car. What internals are you running on that 355?

Very true. I'm ditching my ET streets (they're old anyway) for the MT ET radials.

Clint,

Shift that thing as high as the ECU will let you, the cam will really work well with that. You can see what that does to the MPH the more RPM you run with it.

How much converter are you putting in the thing now?

Great job man. Sorry I wasn't able to make it out there. Get that converter changed and work the few other little issues out and that thing is gonna scoot. I think your new converter will let your torque work alittle better coming out of the hole and be more effecient up top which should give you a nice gain over your current verter. Great first outing for a new setup. Just gotta love those solid rollers huh..hehe.

Now...I'm starting to get the itch again..hehe.

Thanks guys, l Brett I can't turn it any higher than 6,900 b/c it just hits a rev limiter, but on the dyno the HP was going straight up until it hit the limiter. I don't have any kind of limiter in the PCM or MSD so I am going to reprogram another OBD1 PCM to see if it will rev to 7k or better. The converter that I am putting in this week is 3,800 and from the torque it's making I am sure it will Et better and MPH better with the tighter converter. Later

WTF am I doing wrong!?!?!?!?! I hate you right now.... <--- rocks back and forth in the fetal position....

Good times man, Congrats. I may have missed it but were are you shifting at and could you shoot me a PM with the cam duration and lift? Im currious how different it is compaired to my LE2 cam.

Your making 7-8 mph difference on me and pretty much every other person that has even a remotely similar setup is still putting 3-4 MPH on me....
