Largest cam with stock LT4 castings

Little background: Blew my motor yesterday. Heard nasty knocking before it croaked so i think the bottom end is toast. Had problem with dissapearing coolant, think it was drinking through a burnt head gasket or something. Anyhow its broke now, time for rebuild.

I found a shortblock that im gonna have freshened up, possibly bored to a 355. I think im decided on using some LT4 heads on the top end since they would be a bit cheaper then having my old LT1s worked.

MY QUESTION IS What would be the biggest recommended cam that i could run on un touched LT4 heads.

MIND YOU THAT
1. I dont want to change valve springs so cam should not exceed maximum lift for LT4 springs. NOTE: i will be using 1.6 ratio rockers because im sure i will use them later once i DO get the heads worked.
2. Streetability is not a major issue because the car isnt driven all that much _but_ I do cruise down to carlsbad every once in a while (100 mile trip one way) and I would like to make the trip without tooooo much of a headache.
3. SMOG is not a concern either because somehow my car always passes.

The car has a built 10 bolt rear end with TA cover, Toms axles, and 4.10 gears. Most likely will end up changing that out but ill wait for it to grenade before i do. AAA premium is nice .

Sorry about the long winded post, and possibly sparking another dreaded cam debate.

I would greatly appreciate any knowledgeable feedback. I want to do this right and you guys are all fantastic at making recommendations.

Thanks
Steve

If you don't change the valve springs you are going to be fixing the HEADS especially with 1.6:1 rockers! Do it right the first time or just spend your time fixing **** later on.

Re: Largest cam with stock LT4 castings

Ok i get it. I Read up some more, kinda posted before i should have. Seeing now that the LT4 springs are only good for .525 I suppose I SHOULD change the springs. Shouldnt be too much of a hassle since the heads wont be in the car or anything.

So please negate "MIND YOU THAT" #1 from my original posting, except the part about the 1.6rrs.

because i will be changing the springs. Thanks Bret.

No problem man, I just like to see people do it the right way the first time so they save themselves money in the long run.

3016-3037HR111+4 should work

230/236 XFI series 111 LSA 107 ICL (4* advance) .540/.536 with 1.5 rockers

Many people using the Xtreme XFI lobes?
