L99 swap
L99 swap
Hi Guys,
Been off the site for a few years, but thought I'd drop by and ask what I might be looking at for potential problem areas during an engine swap for my '66 Elco. Originally a 6, stick N over, I'm installing a very low mile L99, the 4.3 Caprice V8, sometimes called the "baby" Lt1. I got it from someone who believed he scored an Lt1, and was very disgusted when he found the truth.
The engine is a '96, the harness is a "stand alone" by Lt1wiring, plus a molested ECM with obd11 connector for diagnostic.
The ECM is supposedly set to run on speed density, however the harness is equiped with MAF connection in case I make mods, which is unlikely. It is set up with front O2s, aft cats removed in the reflash.
I need a new radiator and am thinking of using a Ford/MOPAR style to keep from wraping the inlet water hose accross the front, or needing to run a big coolant reservor, having the inlet come from low drivers side.
I'd like to hear what I might be up against.
