Are we ever going to see pics of the clearance problems at the oil filter? I run a longer filter and want to see what you are refering to, and if you need hosting, email them to me and I will put them up for everyone.

Re: Kooks LT1 Headers are great!

The reason why Kook's headers are so opened up...as referred to as "hogged out" is because of guys like me.

Ever see all out ported heads...that gasket that they send that fits the Kook's flange perfectly is the size of my exhaust ports

Aside from that, they look great and I am curious to what issues I will encounter from them...along with everything else I have had to deal with.

Re: Kooks LT1 Headers are great!

I think I have pics of everything. I will send them tonight to be hosted.
I'm still having problems with the steering shaft but I'm just going to have to take more off of the bolt that holds the two together.

Do you NEED to have band clamps for the collectors, or could you have the y pipe welded into the collectors?

I guess if you wanted to cut the Y pipe off eveytime you had to do any type of work on the tranny, converter/clutch, header gaskets or anything like that.. But most of the time people put band clamps on it to avoid that sort of thing.

I have the straight 3" system, so you're going to have more clearance problems than I have. The short filter sure helps.

Good luck!

I have some AFR 195's that are hand ported out and are in the 218-219 range now. The exhaust ports are pretty big as I have a 396 solid roller with nitrous. Was running 470 rwhp on motor. Saw nearly 700 rwhp on a "100hp NX" shot.

Or have someone weld on a 3 bolt triangle collector flange and use a gasket (the copper embossed SCE gaskets are the best I have found, with no leakage.) Other ideas are the ball and socket type collector. I myself am going with some 3.5" V-band (aerospace style) clamps... similar to what the FLP headers come with.

I HATE it when some dip**** welds the y-pipe or exhaust directly to the headers... can't get much more ghetto than that. Always charge them more too, to cut it off, then weld it back up. Do that a few times and it really looks like crap under there.

I hope you realize I was giving the guy a smart A$$ answer, and You realize I wasn't condoning welding them on there!

But yes, you are correct you can go with other means of attaching them also.

I'll probably use a band clamp then, but how would you use it? Can anyone send me a pic on how it would look? Would you suggest band clamps where the I and Y meet then? What I'm confused about with the collector and using a band clamp is that isn't just a pipe, it has that 3 hole flange on it.

BTW I'm not a dip****, I didn't know, that's why I asked, obviously.

Hey thanks for your time in giving me a smart *** answer when I was being serious...shows your character for people that are asking for help. That is pretty rude of you to do, in my opinion.

Hey down boy, I was answering your question honestly, but with a condecending tone that is why I said you could do it, but these are why you shouldn't, instead of saying your a dumb $hit...

I was being a smart *** by saying it the way I did instead of comming out right and saying "No body in their right F'n mind would do anything that damn stupid!!!" See I was just being nice to you, but I guess you made it on my F__k Off list, so if you don't realize I was just helping you without calling you stupid, then you can F__k Off!! I help a lot of people on here, and go out of my way to be nice to them, even to the point I have to defend what I say like in the posts above, and that makes me look stupid for being nice to your ***.. If you think by me being nice to you, is Rude, then try living in the real world buddy and you will notice how nice some people are!!!

Yeah I'm in college I know what the "real world" is like. Whoever said you weren't nice to be? I said you were rude. How do I come with that conclusion...? Well you only said yourself you were being a smart ***, so I'm taking YOUR words, not mine. Did I ever say you called me stupid..? Wrong again. The other guy that posted said what kind of "dipsh*t" would do that, refering to me as an "idiot" for thinking that, and not knowing NOT to do it *weld the y pipe into the collector*. There is a difference between being an *** and being rude, and being nice and being smartass, which that is the case.

How, in any way did you even answer my question on HOW to clamp it? I don't see how a band clamp will work considering the flange in the end of the collector.
