Kooks or Jet Hot?
Re: Kooks or Jet Hot?
hey 93, your arguing for no reason. We or I didnt post stating that I sold my previous FLP's or any of the others, because Im gonna pick up more power. They are superior in plug access, ground clearance, flow, and quality, not to mention there ummmm STAINLESS. So if someone didnt have headers, and was in the market for some long tubes that are actually worth the money, then their best bet are the KOOKS, hands down. I by no means am stating that the hookers/jet hots wont be able to flow what majority of us out there need, they will. But a stepped header cant be compared to a regular hooker or jet hot. If ones intention is to get rid of a set of hookers or jethots to pick up a set of kooks hoping that they are going to pick up more power, yes they will depending on application, but its not going to be imense. Nick at kooks said he will not be surprised if one picked up at least 15-20 horses over a jet hot or hooker. If you actually get the chance to look at a kook header, you will see what I am talking about and the quality of their products.

My point was that evey time a manufacturer comes out with a new design, it becomes all the rage and suddenly nothing else compares. As I said, first it was the Jet Hot's, then FLP's now it's the Kooks. Eventually, in time, someone else will come out and then their design will be considered "the best" by those who buy them.
I'm not saying the Kooks are bad, I'm sure they're a great header and you're absolutely right, if someone who doesn't already have a set of headers, and want's to upgrade, sure, the Kooks are an option if you have all that money.
Price wise, I just can't justify spending that much on a set of headers that would produce negligable, at best, power gains over my Jet Hot's. Nor can I see someone spending that much just because they're stainless.
As far as quality, again, I'm sure the Kook's are fantastic pieces. So are my Jet Hot's. They look so good it's a shame you can't see more of them from above

But my (and I'm sure many other's feel the same way) bottom line is, talk is cheap, obviously, "Nick" at "Kooks" is going to make claims of superiority over the "other" brands. He needs to advertise. He needs to make money. That's the business. As good a header as they are, I need PROOF of just how much HP one can get from upgrading to these new Kooks from a set of Jet Hot's. I need to see some Dyno sheets.
If it turns out they're worth 20-25 HP , I'll be ordering a set for myself for my 396 project, otherwise, I'll save my very hard-earned money and put it towards something more beneficial to me. That's all I'm trying to say. I'm not trying to put anyone down.
P.s Hope you enjoy your new headers.

You can build two cars, with identical setups, and it will prove that they will not make the same amount of power. Too many variables, so you can eliminate that factor. And as far as the 1 7/8 robbing you of low end torque, thats why you have the 1 3/4 piping before the 1 7/8, so it doesnt rob you. If it was a complete 1 7/8 header, then yes I would agree with you, but this is not the case. My .02
The kooks may have great craftsmanship, which is certainly a good reason to buy them if that's what you are looking for. Hookers and Jet-Hot's have a good reputation though too. I don't believe they will make ANY significant HP over Hooker or Jet-Hot LT's until you are at HP level that are far above what you normally see on the street.
I agree, that if you have a stroker, or a SC, the 1 3/4" primary is nice, but even with a 383, the 1 3/4" primary is already PLENTY big.
By the way, I'm not so sure that the 1 3/4" portion of the header is long enough to get the scavenging you want from the 1 3/4" portion before it turns to 1 7/8". It's a very short 1 3/4 length, and I doubt that it's getting much scavenging.
The proof will be in the dyno numbers.

Re: Kooks or Jet Hot?
Well since i'm saving up for headers... what should I go with?
Kooks LT's stepped from 1 3/4-1 7/8 or just regular Jet Hot LT's? The Kooks is probably worth only like 10-15rwhp/tq on a setup like mine with ported stock heads right?
Also... should I go stainless or Ceramic Coated? I heard that the ceramic coating is just a myth... anyone?
