Oh yeah, one other thing. I don't think retarded spark would give you the issue. It would have to be severely advanced to do that. But if it was advanced that far, wouldn't the starter be struggling to crank it over?????? So does your starter appear to be struggling?

And why would it show up after it warms up? Cause the fuel is cut back from start up (enrichment mode)? Then the O2 test would tell you that wouldn't it?

It does not struggle to start hot I haven't messed with it lateley because its been 98 degrees with 100% humidity I am going to pull it off and check it anyway just to see if that gear goes in any other way with out forcing it. I don't know if this is possible but could the opti gear it self be out of time

Don't...it's not worth the extra over the stock GM unit.

Having just read this thread it sound like carbon buildup but the new installation of the OPTI can't just be ignored. Have you had it scanned with something like Datamaster to see exactrly what the computer is doing??

Mine had a similar problem when one of my plug wires burnt off. Double check them all make sure you did good crimps.

I'll be the third person in this thread to recommend getting a GM opti. Notice how no one here has suggested getting an MSD? There's a reason for it.

One of the "problems" with the MSD is the fact that while the timing is adjustable, it has no way to "0" the timing with reference to the cam - its totally hit-or-miss. You'll just be adding another complication.

Let me chime in then...

To me the MSD opti is the no-brainer choice for replacing a Gen I opti.

The only other one worth considering is the Dynaspark. MSD costs less and has had a better customer service track record.

The GM vented opti is the best opti. Hands down, end of story.

This must be a very recent change. Their customer service has been abyssmal, even hanging up on telephone customers. Add that to a product that does not outperform the stock unit at a hgher price and one comes to the conclusing that the GM/AC Delco/Delphi Opti is really the best choice when using an opti at all.

Eric...is gm making a vented opti that will fit on a non vented opti lt1 now? If not...does MSD offer a vented opti that will work on a non vented lt1 without changing out the gears/cover..etc?

First off, let me start by saying that I usually try not to advise anymore in fear of sounding like those guys on the Vette forum (see beginning of thread). That said, I am 95% sure that the MSD optis have fresh-air hoses with ALL part numbers. The only problem would be (assuming I am right), is that you would need to tap that into your intake elbow or somewhere else to provide that fresh air.
